Illegal sexual intercourse is called ‘Zina’ in Arabic. The word Zina is usually used for illegal sexual intercourse but there are also other types of Zina. In brief they are: touching Na-Mehram, talking unnecessarily to Na-Mehram, glancing Na-Mehram, or any unnecessary connection with any Na-Mehram man or woman. Indeed it is a shameful act. Sexual intercourse is allowed between (husband & wife) only.

Punishment For Married Adulterer
If a married person commits Zina then he/she should be stoned to death. There is no forgiveness for them in this world. They should bear this punishment and should beg Allah for His mercy and forgiveness. The punishment for married people is stricter because they are already married and can fulfill their sexual desires with their spouse.

The Holy Quran
The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of the believers witness their punishment. (This punishment is for unmarried persons guilty of the above crime but if married persons commit it, the punishment is to stone them to death, according to Allah’s Law). [Chapter #24 Surah An-Noor, Verse #2]

Hadith
Narrated Jabir: A man from the tribe of Bani Aslam came to Prophet Mohammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) while he was in the mosque and said, “I have committed illegal sexual intercourse.” The Prophet turned his face to the other side. The man turned towards the side towards which the Prophet had turned his face, and gave four witnesses against himself. On that the Prophet called him and said, “Are you insane?” (He added), “Are you married?” The man said, ‘Yes.” On that the Prophet ordered him to be stoned to the death in the Musalla (a praying place). When the stones hit him with their sharp edges and he fled, but he was caught at Al-Harra and then killed. [Sahi Bukhari (Book #63, Hadith #195)]

Hadith
Narrated Zaid bin Khalid and Abu Huraira: The Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “O Unais! Go to the wife of this (man) and if she confesses (that she has committed illegal sexual intercourse), then stone her to death.” [Sahi Bukhari (Book #38, Hadith #508)]

Punishment For Unmarried Adulterer
If an unmarried person commits Zina then he/she should be scourged 100 (one hundred) lashes and sent into exile for 1 (one) year. The punishment for unmarried people is lighter as they do not have a spouse to whom they can go to fulfill their sexual desires, that’s why they are given a lighter punishment.

Hadith

Narrated Zaid bin Khalid: Allah’s Apostle (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) ordered that an unmarried man who committed illegal sexual intercourse be scourged one hundred lashes and sent into exile for one year. [Sahi Bukhari (Book #48, Hadith #817)]

Punishment In Torah (Pentateuch)
Torah (Pentateuch) revealed over Prophet Moses (Alaihissalaam), has also the same punishment for Zina as the Quran has told us.

Hadith
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar: The Jews came to Prophet Mohammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allah’s Apostle (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said to them, “What do you find in the Torah (old Testament) about the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm (stoning)?” They replied, (But) we announce their crime and lash them.” Abdullah bin Salam said, “You are telling a lie; Torah contains the order of Rajm.” They brought and opened the Torah and one of them solaced his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. Abdullah bin Salam said to him, “Lift your hand.” When he lifted his hand, the Verse of Rajm was written there. They said, “Muhammad has told the truth; the Torah has the Verse of Rajm. The Prophet Mohammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. (‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “I saw the man leaning over the woman to Shelter her from the stones.”) [Sahi Bukhari (Book #56, Hadith #829)]

Why Does A Believer Commits Adultery
When Satan completely takes over one’s wishes ‘Nafs’ then fear of Allah departs from one’s heart and the believer becomes blind and commits sins. And the heart which does not have fear of Allah is just like the heart of unbeliever! A believer will never like to be called an Unbeliever, so take oath with your wishes’ Nafs’ that you will never please your desires ‘Nafs’ but will be engaged in pleasing your creator – Allah.

Hadith
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “An adulterer, at the time he is committing illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer; and a person, at the time of drinking an alcoholic drink is not a believer; and a thief, at the time of stealing, is not a believer.” Ibn Shihab said: ‘Abdul Malik bin Abi Bakr bin ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Al- Harith bin Hisham told me that Abu Bakr used to narrate that narration to him on the authority of Abu Huraira. He used to add that Abu Bakr used to mention, besides the above cases, “And he who robs (takes illegally something by force) while the people are looking at him, is not a believer at the time he is robbing (taking). [Sahi Bukhari (Book #69, Hadith #484)]

Advice Of Prophet For Keeping Chaste
This world is a temporary place for our tests. Satan is tracing us everywhere; he is circulating in us with our blood. There are unimaginable high rewards for those who keep their chaste. Control yourself or get married but do not obey Satan, he is aimed to take us to Hell with him. And those who cannot marry should fast as it reduces sexual desires.

Hadith
Narrated ‘Abdullah: We were with the Prophet Mohammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) while we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah’s Apostle (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.” [Sahi Bukhari (Book #62, Hadith #4)]

Ask Allah To Forgive Your Past Sins, He Is The Most Merciful And Forgiving
If someone is guilty of his/her sins then he/she should ask forgiveness from Allah because our Lord is most Merciful and Forgiving. He will listen to your repentance. If a believer did not repent in this life then he/she will first bear the punishment in Hell and then will be entered into Heaven. Don’t become desperate, you have time in your hand as you are alive! Allah has promised the believers that He will forgive our sins and will grant us unending life in Paradise.

Hadith
Narrated Abu Dhar: Prophet Mohammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Gabriel said to me, ‘Whoever amongst your followers die without having worshipped others besides Allah, will enter Paradise (or will not enter the (Hell) Fire).” The Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) asked. “Even if he has committed illegal sexual intercourse or theft?” He replied, “Even then.” [Sahi Bukhari (Book #54, Hadith #445)]

Hadith
Narrated Ibn Abbas: Some pagans, who committed murders in great number and committed illegal sexual intercourse excessively, came to Prophet Muhammad (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) and said, “O Muhammad! Whatever you say and invite people to, is good: but we wish if you could inform us whether we can make an expiration for our (past evil) deeds.” So the Divine Verses came: ‘Those who invoke not with Allah any other god, not kill such life as Allah has forbidden except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse.’ (25.68) And there was also revealed:– ‘Say: O My slaves who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah.’ (39.53) [Sahi Bukhari (Book #60, Hadith #334)]

Shade Of Allah Over 7 People
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:
(1) a just ruler;
(2) a young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood),
(3) a man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque);
(4) two persons who love each other only for Allah’s sake and they meet and part in Allah’s cause only;
(5) a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah;
(6) a person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity).
(7) a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears.” [Sahi Bukhari (Book #24, Hadith #504)]

Adultery Is One Of The Signs Of Qayamah (The Day Of Judgment)
Narrated Anas: I heard from Allah’s Apostle (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam) a narration which none other than I will narrate to you. The Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam), said, “From among the portents of the Hour are the following: General ignorance (in religious affairs) will prevail, (religious) knowledge will decrease, illegal sexual intercourse will prevail, alcoholic drinks will be drunk (in abundance), men will decrease and women will increase so much so that for every fifty women there will be one man to look after them.” [Sahi Bukhari (Book #69, Hadith #483)]
