The Burial Procedure In Islam
Allah (SWT) says: … And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is well-acquainted with what you do.’ (Surah 63, v 11) Abu Hurairah (ra) relates that RasulAllah (saw) stated: read the kalmia ‘La Ilaha Ilallah’ near the dying person (thus by reading the kalmia near them, their thoughts are diverted to the oneness of Allah (SWT) and they pass away from this world in that state inshallah). (Sahih Muslim)
Hazrat Maqir bin Yasaar (ra) relates that RasulAllah (saw) stated: read surah Ya-Sin near the dying person. (Musnad Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah)
Hazrat Jabir bin Zayd (ra) relates that the recitation of Surah R’ad (thunder) also causes the dying person to have some peace and eases the pangs of death. (Ibn Abi Shayba)
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (ra) relates I heard RasulAllah (saw) say: when anyone amongst you dies, then do not hold his body back (from the burial). Take the body quickly to the grave, after the burial read the opening 5 verses of Surah Baqarah towards the head of the grave. And read the last 2 verses of Surah Baqarah towards the foot of the grave. (Abu Dawood, v2, p94)
Due to governmental requirements and procedures, a body may be held back from a burial. However, to delay a body from being buried due to the absence of certain family members is not permissible according to Shariah. This is because, in many ahadith, RasulAllah (saw) has expressly ordered that the body be buried as soon as possible after death.
Umme Salamah (ra) relates that at the time of the death of her husband Abu Salamah (ra) Nabi Karim (saw) came to their house, and the eyes of Abu Salamah (ra) remained open after his death. Nabi Karim (saw) closed them and said: ‘When the soul is taken out of the body, then the faculty of sight is also taken with it.’ Hearing this, the household of Abu Salamah (ra) started crying loudly.
Nabi Karim (saw) stated: O people! Make supplication for good and success, for whatever you are saying now, the angels say ‘Ameen’ to that. Then Nabi Karim (saw) himself made the following dua: ‘O Allah forgive Abu Salamah and raise his rank amongst those whom you have guided of your creation. Sustain his house folk, O Allah forgive Abu Salamah and all of us also and make his grave wide and filled with light!’ (Sahih Muslim)
To take part in the funeral prayer and burial of a Muslim carries a very great reward, indeed Hazrat Abu Hurairah (ra) relates that RasulAllah (saw) stated: whomsoever takes part in the funeral prayer of a Muslim and then stays on until the burial is completed. He will be rewarded the equivalent of 2 qirat. The comparison of 1 qirat is like the Mountain of Uhud.(Sahih Muslim)
Be aware, that this applies to the menfolk and women should refrain from the acts of burial alongside the men. There are also hadith which prohibit women from attending the cemeteries.
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abaas (ra) stated: the believer who takes part in the funeral prayer of his fellow believers the greatest reward that he attains is, after his death, he (the performer of the funeral prayer of others) has his sins forgiven. (Nawadirul Usool)
From this narration is it encouraged that a believer should, as much as possible, take part in the funeral prayer and burial of the Muslims to attain the great reward that Allah (swt) has kept for these deeds. For today is their turn, and tomorrow it will be ours.
After performing the burial of any believer, RasulAllah (saw) would wait at their grave and would say: supplicate for the steadfastness and forgiveness of your brother, for he is about to be questioned. (Abu Dawood)
The individuals who place the body in the grave should say: ‘Bismillahi Wa Ala Milathi Rasulillah’ (we place you in the name of Allah and the religion of RasulAllah (saw) we hand you over to Allah). Then the body should be placed on its right side facing the qibla.(Duri Mukhtar)
After this, cover the grave with earth, for each person to throw 3 handfuls in the grave is preferred. It is better than on throwing the 1st handful: ‘Minha Khalaqna Kum’ (from this earth we created you), is read. On the 2nd handful: ‘Wa Feha Nu’iydukum’ (and to this we are returning you). And on throwing the 3rd handful read: ‘Wa Minha Nukhrijukum Taratan Ukhra’ (from this again we shall raise you (on Qiyamah). (Duri Mukhtar)
The news of the passing away of Hazrat Jafar ibn Abi Talib (ra) reached RasulAllah (saw). He (saw) said to his household: ‘Prepare food for the family of Jafar (ra), for they are at this time grieving and will not be attentive to food.’ (Jami Tirmidi, Ibn Majah)
It is regretful & shameful that today people frequent the house of the family of the deceased to have food rather than preparing & sending food to their house, which is the way of our Prophet (saw).
May Allah guide us to the straight path and make use of those who live with Iman, die with Iman, and raise us on Qiyamah with the believers Ameen!

10 Days Of Dhul Hijjah
“There are no days during which good deeds are more beloved by Allah than these (ten) days.” (Al-Bukhari, Tirmidhi, and others)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) was then asked: “Not even Jihad in Allah’s way?” He replied: “Not even Jihad in Allah’s way; except for a person who went out (for Jihad) with his self and wealth and came back with none (i.e. lost all for Allah).” (Tirmidhi – authenticated in Al-Albani’s Irwaa’ Al-Ghaleel no. 953)
All good deeds can be done during these days, and the early generations of Muslims used to exert themselves excessively in worshiping Allah. Fasting and Dhikr (glorifying and remembering Allah) especially should be done in plenty.
Dhikr
Ibn Abbas commented on the verse “…and to mention Allah’s name (plentifully) on known days” (Qur’an, 22:28) by saying: “…these known days are the Ten Days (of Dhul Hijjah).” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer)
Fasting
One of the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah’s Messenger used to fast the (first) nine days of Dhul Hijjah, the day of `Ashouraa’, and three days of each month. (Saheeh Sunan Abu Dawood no. 2129)
Fasting on all these days, however, is not Wajib (compulsory), nor is it a stressed Sunnah that the Messenger (peace be upon him) never left. Ayesha said: “I never saw the Messenger (peace be upon him) fast the ten days.” (Saheeh Muslim)
Best day of the year
On the day of Arafah the pilgrims stand in worship in the Mountain of Arafah.
“Fasting the day of Arafah expiates the (minor) sins of two years: a past one and a coming one. And fasting the day of `Aashouraa’ expiates the sins of the past year.” (Saheeh Muslim)
“There is no day on which Allah frees people from the Fire as He does on the day of Arafah. (Saheeh Muslim)
Day of Sacrifice
The tenth of Dhul-Hijjah is Eid Al-Adha or the day of An-Nahr (sacrifice). It marks the conclusion of the major rites of Hajj, and commemorates Allah’s bounty on His Messenger Ibrahim, when He gave him a ram to sacrifice as ransom in exchange for his son Ismail (peace be upon them).
“The day of Al-Fitr (i.e. Eid Al-Fitr), the day of An-Nahr, and the days of Tashreeq are Eid days for us Muslims. They are days of eating and drinking.” (Ahmad, An-Nasaa’ee, Saheeh Al-Jaami no. 8192)
Three days after Eid
On these days, the pilgrims complete their rites, Muslims continue with their Eid celebrations, and are prohibited from fasting. “The days of Tashreeq are days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.” (Saheeh Muslim)
The sacrifice
The consensus of Muslim scholars is that the sacrifice is an important Sunnah, and a worship called for in the Law of Allah. However, they differ as to whether it is Nafl (voluntary) or Wajib (mandatory) for those who can afford it. Some scholars have explained the different Ahadith on the subject by stating that the sacrifice is obligatory on those who can afford it and not obligatory on those who cannot.
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “He who has the capacity, and does not sacrifice, may not approach our Musalla (place of prayer – on the Eid).” (Ibn Maajah, Ahmad and others, authenticated by Al-Albani in Saheeh Sunan Ibn Majah no. 2533)
One who wants to sacrifice (Udhiyyah) should not cut his hair or nails during these 10 days. He should do so before these 10 days. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “When anyone of you intending to sacrifice the animal enters the month of Dhul Hijjah he should not get his hair or nails touched (cut).” (Saheeh Muslim)

Health Benefits Of Honey
Honey is a sweet treat. In fact, it is man’s oldest sweetener. It can be a good substitute for sugar in our drinks and food. But it is also good for many other things and treating many other conditions. Reliance on commercialized medicines that contain too many chemicals can become hazardous to our health. Alhamdulillah, Allah has given us the knowledge that Mother Nature can at least help ease the pain we are suffering from.
Honey comprises sugars like glucose and fructose and minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chlorine, sulfur, iron, and phosphate. It contains vitamins B1, B2, C, B6, B5, and B3, all of which change according to the qualities of the nectar and pollen. Besides the above, copper, iodine, and zinc exist in it in small quantities. Several kinds of hormones are also present in it.
Approximately one-half of the human diet is derived directly or indirectly from crops pollinated by bees. Today, honeybees are an essential part of a healthy agriculture economy. If you have allergies, honey can be beneficial. If you eat honey that is local to your area, it may prevent your seasonal allergies. Bees use the pollen from local plants, and eventually, it ends up in your honey.
Honey may also be good for your skin. It can attract water. You can use honey instead of alpha hydroxy masks because of its high content of the acid. It is also safe for sensitive skin.
You can also use it as a moisturizing mask for your skin as well as your hair. To use it as a conditioner, mix the honey with olive oil. Be sure to wash your hair thoroughly before you go outside.
If you have a sore throat, take some honey. Due to its natural anti-inflammatory effect, it will help to heal wounds more quickly. It also has different phytochemicals–chemicals found in plants and different foods–that kill viruses, bacteria, and fungus, making it a good substitute for wound dressings. The taste may also take your mind off the pain.
There is evidence that honey diluted in water will help with your stomachaches and dehydration.
Health In Islam: Germ-Fighting Properties Germ-Fighting Properties
Do you have a cut? Honey is a natural antiseptic. Medical journals cite more than 600 cases in which honey was employed to treat wounds. By applying honey to your wounds, you prevent infections. Honey contains antimicrobial agents, which prevent infections by killing the bacteria in and around your wounds. When using honey, it may help to heat it before putting it on your wound (caution test the heat before you place it on the wound). Many types of bacteria can’t survive in honey, so wounds heal, swelling eases, and tissue can grow back.
Honey may also be effective in the treatment of your ulcers. In Europe, honey has been used internally to help cure ulcers, particularly stomach ulcers.
Burns, too, heal better with honey, studies show. The advantage of honey is that it not only prevents infections from occurring, it accelerates skin healing. Since the sugar in honey absorbs water, it helps to trap some of the moisture so that the bacteria and other microbes can’t grow as easily as in other food.
Honey: How Does It Help In Healing Wounds? How Does It Help In Healing Wounds?
When honey comes into contact with body moisture, the glucose oxidase enzyme introduced to the honey by the bee slowly releases the antiseptic hydrogen peroxide at a sufficient level to be effective against bacteria but not tissue damage. Not only is honey antibacterial, but it also draws body fluids and nutrients to the area and so assists cell growth, and prevents a scar from forming by drying out the wound.
The osmotic action of the honey draws out and provides a film of liquid between the tissues and the dressing, allowing the dressing to be removed painlessly, without tearing the re-growing cells. There are reports in medical journals of large bed sores, otherwise needing skin grafts, that have healed without scarring after honey treatment.
In treating diarrhea, honey promotes the rehydration of the body and more quickly clears up the diarrhea and any vomiting and stomach upsets. The antibacterial properties of honey, both the peroxide and non-peroxide, are effective in the laboratory against MRSA strains of bacteria which are notoriously resistant to antibiotics and are sometimes responsible for the closing of hospital wards.
Other Benefits of Honey
Easily digested: Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps kidneys and intestines to function better.
Good source of antioxidants: It plays a big role in the prevention of cancer as well as heart disease.
Has a low-calorie level: Another quality of honey is that, when it is compared with the same amount of sugar, it gives 40% fewer calories to the body. Although it gives great energy to the body, it does not add weight.
Rapidly diffuses through the blood: When accompanied by mild water, honey diffuses into the bloodstream in 7 minutes. Its free sugar molecules make the brain function better since the brain is the largest consumer of sugar, thus, reducing fatigue.
Supports blood formation: Honey provides an important part of the energy needed by the body for blood formation. In addition, it helps in cleansing the blood. It has some positive effects in regulating and facilitating blood circulation. It also functions as a protection against capillary problems and arteriosclerosis.
Does not accommodate bacteria: This bactericide (bacteria-killing) property of honey is named “the inhibition effect”. Experiments conducted on honey show that its bactericide properties increase twofold when diluted with water. It is very interesting to note that newly born bees in the colony are nourished with diluted honey by the bees responsible for their supervision – as if they know this feature of the honey.
Royal Jelly: Royal jelly is a substance produced by worker bees inside the beehive. Inside this nutritious substance are sugar, proteins, fats, and many vitamins. It is used in problems caused by tissue deficiency or body frailty.
It is obvious that honey, which is produced in much higher amounts than the requirements of the bees, is made for the benefit of man. And it is also obvious that bees cannot perform such an unbelievable task “on their own.”
True Love
Dear brothers and sisters…I pray that you are all in the highest state of faith and health, and Insha Allah, your minds and hearts are full of love for Allah subhana wa ta.alaa, His messenger, peace be upon him, and your fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. Alhamdulillah, as Muslims, we learn that Allah azza wa jal, in His infinite mercy and love for us, asks us to reciprocate that love to Him through obedience and to spread it among ourselves. In this way, we can strengthen the bonds within our communities and with our Creator. Part of this love entails having mercy and compassion for our brothers and sisters and loving them regardless of their shortcomings and faults. For, we all know that NO ONE is perfect. Allah subhana wa ta.alaa says in suurat al Hujurat, ayat 11-12,
“O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: Ill seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used by one) after he has believed: and those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong.”
“O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other, nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it…but fear Allah: for Allah is oft-Returning, Most Merciful.”
and in suurat an-Nur, ayat 24, Allah azza wa jal says, “…let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
The perfect example of this can be seen in the kind and merciful behavior of Abu ad-Darda’, May Allah be pleased with him, one of the companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him:
Once, Abu ad-Darda was going about on his way when he came upon a group of people who had gathered around a man whom they were beating and cursing. He asked them what the problem was, and they told him that the man had done something very sinful. Abu ad-Darda’ said to them,
“If he had fallen into a well, would you not have pulled him out?”
“Of course we would have,” they said.
“Do not curse or beat him then. Instead, explain to him and enlighten him, and praise Allah subhana wa ta.alaa for saving you from falling into the same sin,” he said.
“Do you not hate him?” they asked Abu ad-Darda’.
“I only hate what he has done and if he repents of it, he is my brother.”
When the man whom they were beating heard this, he began to weep and said that he repented and would not return to his sin.
Subhana Allah, his mercy and kindness set an example for all of us…how many times do we see someone doing something non-Islamic, and the first thing we think or say is something negative and critical about that person, instead of thinking positively, “Oh, my poor brother/sister in Islam, I must help him/her to improve…maybe he/she didn’t know that what they did was wrong, maybe I can advise him/her and Insha Allah, and help to bring both of us closer to Allah subhana wa ta.alaa.”
Like Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, once said, “You see the believers as regards to their being merciful among themselves and showing love among themselves and being kind, resembling one body, so that, if any part of the body is not well then the whole body shares the sleeplessness (insomnia) and fever with it.” Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 40
The love and mercy shown by the Prophet, peace be upon him and his companions, may Allah be pleased with them, is unmatched to today… and that is why WE must strive to achieve that level of love in our hearts…for Allah subhana wa ta.alaa, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, and for each other…this true love will then manifest itself in ourselves and our communities, and perpetuate the true meaning of Islam
I ask Allah subhana wa ta.alaa to forgive me for any of my shortcomings…all praises are due to Him only, and anything good that has come of this is from Allah azza wa jal and anything bad is from my own shortcomings, and Shaitan… Please forgive me if I have offended anyone, as that was not my intention… I pray that Allah subhana wa ta.alaa will accept this humble work for his sake…and Insha Allah, I hope that all of us will continue to strive for the sake of Allah subhana wa ta.alaa. May we all meet in the highest level of paradise… Ameen.
May Allah azza wa jal continue to guide and protect us on our journey to the highest level of paradise.

Have A Clean Heart
Purification of the souls is one of the ends for which the prophets were sent. The true believer is the one who does not harbor any grudge against anyone, nor does he look for others’ faults. A clean heart is an indication of perfect belief and of being a good Muslim. However, whoever does otherwise is not fit for Heaven to be his abode, as his heart is full of impurities.
Bravery, courage, generosity, love, kindness, compassion, Allah-consciousness, altruism, nearness to Allah and enjoying having intimate discourse with Allah, belief, certitude, and all kinds of good cannot exist except in a pure heart. They cannot exist in a heart polluted with malice, envy, selfishness, and ill will toward others. The pious people are always keen to watch their hearts and purify them. The pure hearts and virtuous souls are the ones that are filled with Allah-consciousness, being fearful of Allah, and having strong belief, so they overflow with good and kindness. People with such hearts are characterized by upright conduct and their inner self is pure. Such people love to do good to others as they themselves are living in peace.
As to the person with an evil heart and bad manners, people suffer because of their evil. Also, such people have suffering souls. A good Muslim does not bear any grudge or hatred against his brethren. The closest persons to the Prophet (peace be upon him) were those with excellent manners, morals, and pure and sincere hearts. Such hearts and souls take the persons to the highest levels in Paradise, and they wouldn’t have reached these levels even with the voluntary (nawafil) prayers.
O Mankind, Worship Your Lord
[ALLAH’S Quran – 2:21] “O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) has said:
[Muslim, Book #001, Hadith #0023] “I direct you to affirm belief in Allah alone, and then asked them: Do you know what belief in Allah really implies? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet said: It implies testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, fast of Ramadan, that you pay one-fifth of the booty (fallen to your lot) and I forbid you to use gourd, wine jar, or a receptacle for wine. Shu’ba sometimes narrated the word naqir (wooden pot) and sometimes narrated it as muqayyar. The Holy Prophet also said: Keep it in your mind and inform those who have been left behind.”
Deeds Which Will Benefit The Deceased After His Death
1. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “If a company of Muslims numbering one hundred pray over a dead person, all of them interceding for him, their intercession [i.e. prayers for forgiveness and mercy] for him will be accepted!”[1]
“If a company of the people prays over a dead person, they will intercede for him”[2]
2. The deceased feels the comforting presence of his brothers in Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) after the burial, for a period of time equal to the time taken to sacrifice a camel and distribute its meat. ‘Amr Ibn al-‘As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When you bury me, stay around my grave for the time it would take to sacrifice a camel and distribute its meat, so that I may be comforted by your presence until I see how I will answer the messengers of my Lord.” [Reported by Muslim]
3. Praying for strength and forgiveness for him immediately after his burial. From Uthman Ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: “Whenever the Prophet (Peace be upon him) had finished burying anyone, he would stand by the grave and say: ‘Ask for forgiveness and strength for your brother, for even now he is being questioned.’”[3]
4. Continuous charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), which he set up in his lifetime; beneficial knowledge; and a pious son who will pray for him. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “When a person dies, his deeds stop, except for three: continuous charity, knowledge which benefits others, or a pious son who will pray for him” [Reported by Muslim]
5. Charity given by the son of the deceased on his/her behalf. From A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her): a man said to the Prophet (Peace be upon him): “My mother died suddenly without making any will. I think she would
have given charity (Sadaqah) if she had been able to speak. Would she have a reward if I gave charity on her behalf?” He said: “Yes”. [Reported by Al-Bukhari, Muslim]
6. All believers and Muslims should pray for him and ask forgiveness for him. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: “And those who came after them say: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who came before us into the Faith …” [Surah al-Hashr, 59:10]
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Whoever prays for forgiveness for the believing men and believing women,
Allah will give him one reward for each believing man and believing women (he prayed for).”[4].
7. Defending the borders of Islam for the sake of Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) in this world. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “When a person dies his good deeds come to an end, except for his
defending the borders of Islam for the sake of Allah (fi sabilil-lah). This deed will grow (i.e. in reward) until the Day of Judgment, and he will be protected from the Fitnah of the graves”.[5]

Sweetness Of Faith
Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 13: Narrated Abu Huraira: “Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is, none of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father and his children.”
Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 14: Narrated Anas: The Prophet said “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children, and all mankind.”
Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 15: Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, “Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith:
1. The one to whom Allah and His Apostle become dearer than anything else.
2. Who loves a person, and he loves him only for Allah’s sake.
3. Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire.”
When the Holy Prophet Muhammed S.A.S declared there is no god except Allah and, he alone is worthy of worship. He first confirmed with the people about his own truthfulness, steadfastness, and righteousness.
Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 293: Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Verse: ‘And warn your tribe of near-kindred, was revealed, the Prophet ascended the Safa (mountain) and started calling, “O Bani Fihr! O Bani ‘Adi!” addressing various tribes of Quraish till they were assembled. Those who could not come themselves sent their messengers to see what was there. Abu Lahab and other people from Quraish came and the Prophet then said, “Suppose I told you that there is an (enemy) cavalry in the valley intending to attack you, would you believe me?” They said, “Yes, for we have not found you telling anything other than the truth.” He then said, “I am a Warner to you in the face of a terrific punishment.” Abu Lahab said (to the Prophet) “May your hands perish all this day. Is it for this purpose you have gathered us?” Then it was revealed: “Perish the hands of Abu Lahab (one of the Prophet’s uncles), and perish he! His wealth and his children will not profit him….” (111.1-5)
Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 293: Two points to note from this wonderful hadees Allah personally cursed Abu Lahab, and even revealed a verse to curse him, when this person cursed the Holy Prophet Muhammed Salalaahu Alaihi wasallam, this is exceptional and reflects the close bond between the most beloved of Allah and Allah. The second point when the Holy Prophet Muhammed Salalaahu Alaihi wasallam wanted to call people for Islam he first established his own credibility and those who accepted and endorsed him and those who did not raise doubts about him and did not question his command and his knowledge of the unseen accepted Allah, this shows that reverence, respect, and love of the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam leads to belief in Allah, Allah never showed himself nor did he show us heaven and hell, nor did we see Gibreal bringing the revelation, nor did we see judgment day.
“Suppose I told you that there is an (enemy) cavalry in the valley intending to attack you, would you believe me?” They said, “Yes, These people became the Muslims”.
