True Anecdotes – A Wise Old Woman
A scholar once saw an old lady operating her spinning wheel and asked her, “Lady! You’ve been spinning that wheel your entire life. Have you ever taken any time to learn about Your Lord?”
The woman replied, “I see everything through this wheel of mine.”
“Then tell me, is Allah present or not?”
“Allah is present, every moment, every day, every night “all the time.”
“But what’s your proof of this?”
“This very wheel of mine!”
“How so?”
The woman explained, “As long as I’m here running the wheel, it continues to spin in motion. Once I stop, it stops. So, if the wheel is in need of someone to keep it moving, why shouldn’t the Earth, the Heavens, the Sun, and the Moon be in need of someone to keep them moving? When I stop my work, the wheel stops spinning, but until now, we’ve never seen anything in our Universe stop moving. This is how I know that the One Who keeps our world in order is present and is always present.”
The scholar was happy with this answer but continued, “Okay, but how do you know that the One who controls the Universe is one and not two?”
The woman replied, “The answer is again in my wheel! It only spins in the direction I tell it to. If someone wanted to assist me in spinning it, the wheel’s motion would become inconsistent and it wouldn’t work properly. And, if my assistant spun it in a different direction, the wheel would either stop spinning or break. This doesn’t happen when I use it alone, and this is how I know that if there was another controller of the Universe besides Allah, there would be no uniformity in the day and night cycle or anything else. So, the controller of the Heavens and the Earth can only be one.” [Seerat as-Saliheen, Page 3]
Lesson: The world itself is proof that our Creator is one, but only those of insight see this.

Jealousy And Its Cures
Compiled by Shawana A. Aziz
“Beware of jealousy,
for verily it destroys good deeds
the way fire destroys wood.“
Hasad (jealousy and envy) is among the most destructive emotions or feelings that a man may have towards his fellow human being. It causes him to wish evil for others and to be happy when misfortune befalls them. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.” [Abu Dawood]
Hasad is a disease of the heart and it causes impurity to the heart, when Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) was asked who are the best of people? He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) replied: “the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue.” They asked: ‘We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean?’ he answered: ‘It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and free of sin, transgressions, hatred, and Hasad.” [Ibn Majah]
Hasad is such a dangerous characteristic that Allah revealed verses of the Qur’an to be recited as a protection from the jealous, “Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn… from the evil of envious when he envies.” [Soorah al-Falaq (113): 1]
At-Tirmidhee narrated from al-Zubayr Ibn al-Awam that the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “There has come to you the disease of the nations before you, jealousy and hatred. This is the ‘shaver’ (destroyer); I do not say that it shaves hair, but that it shaves (destroys) faith…” [(Hasan) Jamee at-Tirmidhee (2434)]
Hasad can cause the person to indulge in disbelief because it causes the individual to feel that Allah has not been fair with him; he forgets all the mercy and blessings which Allah has bestowed upon him. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “They are enemies for Allah’s bounties.” They asked: “Who are they?” He said: “Those who envy people for what Allah has given them of Bounty.” [at-Tabaranee]
Allah through His Absolute Wisdom has given some people more wealth, intelligence, beauty, strength, children, etc. than others. The believing Muslim should be content with what Allah has destined for him. Allah says: [Soorah an-Nahl (16): 71] And: “Allah favored some of you over others with wealth and properties… Do they deny the favors of Allah?”
“Do they envy men for what Allah has given them of His Bounty?” [Soorah an-Nisa (4): 54]
“It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the mercy of your Lord is better.” [Soorah az-Zukhruf (43): 32] meaning mercy of Allah is better than the convenience of the world. The materials of this life do not make one superior to another in Allah’s Judgment. True superiority lies in Taqwa (righteousness, fear of Allah). He said: “Surely, the noblest of you to Allah is the most God-fearing. ” [Soorah al-Hujurat (49): 13] “And the Hereafter with Your Lord is (only) for those who have Taqwa.” [Soorah az-Zukhruf (43): 35]
What belongs to the transient world is of no significance before Allah. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “If this world were worth a mosquito’s wing before Allah, He would not give a disbeliever a drink of water.” [At-Tirmidhee]
The favors of Allah in the world are a test; the more the favors, the more the tests. Al-Hasan al-Basri said: “Umar Ibn Khattab wrote this letter to Abu Musa al-Ash’ari, ‘Be content with your provision in this world, for the Most Merciful has honored some of His servants over others in terms of provision as a test of both. The one who has been given plenty is being tested to see if he will give thanks to Allah and fulfill the duties which are his by virtue of his wealth…” [Ibn Hatim]
Allah, the Exalted, has therefore forbidden us from desiring what others have, “Do not wish for what we have favored some of you over others.” [Soorah an-Nisa (4): 32]
To Wish For Good
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam)said, “If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, I would love that, before three days had passed, not a single Dinar thereof remained with me if I found somebody to accept it excluding some amount that I would keep for the payment of my debts.

What kind of wishing is disliked
Narrated by Sad bin Ubaid (Radhiallaho anho):
(the Maula of ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Azhar) Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “None of you should long for death, for if he is a good man, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil-doer, he may stop the evil deeds and repent.”

Many Virtues Of Surah Ya’seen Are Mentioned In The Ahaadith
“Everything has a heart, the heart of the Qur’an is Surah Ya’seen. Whoever reads Surah Ya’seen (once), Allah Ta’aala records for him a reward equal to that of reading the whole Qur’an ten times.”
(Tirmizi, Daarimi)
It is related to Hazrat Ata bin Abi Ribah (RA) that Rasulullah (SAW) said:
“Whoever reads S.Ya’seen in the beginning of the day, all his needs for that day will be fulfilled.”
According to another Hadith, Allah Ta’aala recited S.Ya’seen and Surah Taha 1000 years before the creation of the Heavens & the Earth, and on hearing this, the angels said: “Blessing is for that Ummat unto whom the Qur’an will be sent down, the blessing is for the hearts which will bear (memorize it) and blessing is for the tongues which will recite it.”
Another narration says: Whoever reads Surah Ya’seen for the pleasure of Allah only, all his previous sins are forgiven. Therefore, make a practice of reading this Surah over your dead.”

Laylat al-Qadr – The Night Of Power
I. Hadrat Anas ibn Malik reported that when Ramadan came, the Holy Prophet said, Indeed this month has come to you, and in it is a night more virtuous than a thousand months. So, whosoever is deprived of its blessings is deprived of all blessings. No one is kept deprived of its blessings, but only those who are unfortunate. [Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Page 119]
II. Hadrat Aishah reported that the Messenger of Allah has said, Seek Lailatul Qadr on an odd-numbered night (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and the 29th) among the last ten (nights) of Ramadan. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 270]
