5 Daily Prayers
Salat [Prayers] Enjoined
[Quran 4:103 – Pickthall] “…………Worship at fixed times hath been enjoined on the believers”
Allah’s Command to Believers (Muslims)
[Quran 2:238 – Al-Muntakhab] “Observe your duty to Allah and maintain the prescribed prayers, especially AL-‘Asr, the afternoon prayer, and humble yourselves to Allah and exercise unqualified obedience to Him”
ENJOINED, Fajr Prayer
[Quran 11:114 – Al-Muntakhab] “Observe your act of worship at both ends of the day -the early morning and the close of the day- and at the early hours of the night -following sunset and before bedtime- and keep in mind that pious and virtuous deeds cancel evil deeds. This is simply a reminder for those who keep Allah in mind and lift to Him their inward sight”
[Quran 24:58 – Amatul Rahman Omar] “O you who believe! it is binding on those whom your right hands possess (domestic servants) and those (of your children) who have not reached the age of puberty to ask your permission (before coming into your private rooms) in three instances, before the morning Prayer, and when you lay aside your clothes due to the heat (in summer) at noon and after the night Prayer. These are three times when your privacy should be respected. At other times no blame shall lie on you or on them (if they come to you without permission), for they have to move about (waiting upon you) some of you (attending) upon others (according to need). That is how Allah explains to you His commandments, for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise”
ENJOINED, Zuhur Prayer
[Quran 17:78 – Muhammad Asad] “BE CONSTANT in [thy] prayer from the time when the sun has passed its zenith till the darkness of night, and [be ever mindful of its] recitation at dawn: for, behold, the recitation [of prayer] at dawn is indeed witnessed [by all that is holy]”
[Quran 30:18 – Yusuf Ali] “Yea, to Him be praise, in the heavens and on earth; and in the late afternoon and when the day begins to decline”
ENJOINED, Asr Prayer
[Quran 2:238 – Al-Muntakhab] “Observe your duty to Allah and maintain the prescribed prayers, especially AL-‘Asr, the afternoon prayer, and humble yourselves to Allah and exercise unqualified obedience to Him”
ENJOINED, Maghrib Prayer
[Quran 11:114 – Amatul Rahman Omar] “And observe Prayer at the two ends of the day and in some early hours of the night. Surely, the good deeds wipe out the evil ones. That is a reminder for those who would remember”
ENJOINED, Isha Prayer
[Quran 24:58 – Aisha Bewley] “You who have iman! those you own as slaves and those of you who have not yet reached puberty should ask your permission to enter at three times: before the Dawn Prayer, when you have undressed at noon, and after the Salat al-‘Isha’ – three times of nakedness for you. There is nothing wrong for you or them at other times in moving around among yourselves from one to another. In this way Allah makes the Signs clear to you. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
ENJOINED Salat[Prayers], According to the Prophet of Islam’s Ahadith
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 2, Hadith 0430] “Narrated Abu Qatadah ibn Rab’i: Allah, the Exalted said: I made five times’ prayers obligatory on your people, and I took a guarantee that if anyone observes them regularly at their times, I shall admit him to Paradise; if anyone does not offer them regularly, there is no such guarantee of Mine for him.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 8, Hadith 1415] “There are five prayers which Allah has prescribed on His servants. If anyone offers them, not losing any of them, and not treating them lightly, Allah guarantees that He will admit him to Paradise. If anyone does not offer them, Allah does not take any responsibility for such a person. He may either punish him or admit him to Paradise”
[Bukhari, Book 23, Hadith 478] “Narrated Ibn Abbas: Thy Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen and said, “Invite the people to testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and I am Allah’s Apostle, and if they obey you to do so, then teach them that Allah has enjoined on them five prayers in every day and night (in twenty-four hours), and if they obey you to do so, then teach them that Allah has made it obligatory for them to pay the Zakat from their property and it is to be taken from the wealthy among them and given to the poor.”
[Bukhari, Book 23, Hadith 480] “Narrated Abu Huraira: A Bedouin came to the Prophet and said, “Tell me of such a deed as will make me enter Paradise, if I do it.” The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, “Worship Allah, and worship none along with Him, offer the (five) prescribed compulsory prayers perfectly, pay the compulsory Zakat, and fast the month of Ramadan.” The Bedouin said, “By Him, in Whose Hands my life is, I will not do more than this.” When he (the Bedouin) left, the Prophet said, “Whoever likes to see a man of Paradise, then he may look at this man.”
[Muslim, Book 002, Hadith 0450] “Abu Huraira reported: Verily the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: five (daily) prayers and from one Friday prayer to the (next) Friday prayer, and from Ramadhan to Ramadhan are expiations for the (sins) committed in between (their intervals) provided one shuns the major sins”
[Malik’s Muwatta Book 9, Hadith 9.25.97] “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, ‘There are five prayers during the day and the night.”

Significance Of Morning Prayer
[65. Surah At-Talaq: Ayah 2-3] And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him. And He provides for him from (sources) he never could imagine. And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, Allah will be sufficient for him.
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 243] Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words, ‘The night is long, so stay asleep.’ When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart.”
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 245] Narrated ‘Abdullah (Radi Allah Anhu): A person was mentioned before the Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) and he was told that he had kept on sleeping till morning and had not got up for the prayer. The Prophet said, “Satan urinated in his ears.”
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 246] Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me so I may grant him his request? Is anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?”
Our Lord! accept from us; surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing.
The Importance Of Fajr Prayer
It is easy to understand how the idea of Muslims praying five mandatory prayers a day is misunderstood to mean that they pray only those five observances and no more.
Muslims should know the great status of fajr in the sight of Allah. Allah (SWT) says (interpretation of the meaning) “Establish regular prayers at the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and the recital of the Quran in the Fajr prayer, for the recital of the fajr, is witnessed” (Al-Israa 17:78)
In addition, The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Whoever prays the fajr prayer in congregation, it is as if he (or she) had prayed the whole night long.” [Muslim & Tirmidhi].
Now, to show the seriousness of missing this prayer, we present the hades of the prophet (PBUH) “the most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are Isha and Fajr, but if they only knew what they contain, they would come even if they had to crawl.” [Ahmad]
The Fajr (dawn) prayer is amongst the most important acts of worship, being one of the five obligatory prayers. unfortunately, many of us have become so used to missing it at its prescribed time – which ends at sunrise – that we have forgotten its position in our religion, and barely feel anything is wrong when we wake up in the morning for work or school without having performed the fajr prayer. on the other hand, if one of us was to miss a job interview or a flight, we all know how disappointed he or she would feel the fajr (dawn) prayer is amongst the most important acts of worship, being one of the five obligatory prayers.
Do not let satan benefit from his actions. do not put off a good that you intended to do as you never know how much reward you might receive from the hardships you encounter while trying to achieve that good.
Sunnat-O-Nawafil Ki Fazeelat
Disease Of Staying Up Late At Nights
The favors of Allah upon His slaves cannot be enumerated. Among the favors is that He created sleep, and He created the night so that we may rest in it.
“And We have made your sleep as a thing for rest; and We have made the night as a covering (through its darkness).” (Qur’an, 78:9-10)
Allah created this time for people to unwind, calm down and rest in, and this is from out of His mercy. Allah says:
“It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein (i.e. during the night) and that you may seek of His bounty (i.e. during the day) – and in order that you may be grateful.” (Qur’an, 28:73)
In the past, people would be shedding tears in their night prayers, praying, making Du’a or reciting the Qur’an at nights. Our Salaf, may Allah have mercy upon them, would view the nights as the best means to Paradise.
However, the Muslims of today take their nights as a means of entertainment and frivolity. Satan dispatches his followers and spreads his evil ideas, and this has led to late nights being a source of immorality, corrupt behavior, and a path that leads to one’s destruction, as well as a period in which the evilest of prohibited television programs are broadcast.
All of these evils are a direct result of the Muslim nation accepting foreign lifestyles. Muslims are accepting ideologies that promote a lifestyle which is by its nature far removed from the religion of Allah and rebellious against all spiritual morals. It encourages the following of one’s lusts and desires, just as animals do.
During vacations and holidays, staying up late at nights becomes a serious problem. Most people forego sleep and all other important activities to immerse themselves in wrongdoing and sinful acts. They seem to forget that the days of summer are temporary and that these days and nights will soon come to an end.
Successful are those who ponder upon the heat of summer and think thereby about the Hereafter and the Hellfire. Such remembrance would stop people from spending their nights in sin and wasting time indulging in prohibitions, immorality and corruption, all of which destroys families and the next generation. Good news is for the slaves who restrain from straying away, and spend their time beneficially in activities such as attending Qur’an circles, lectures, courses, and in development of mental abilities, and Halaal entertainment.
Staying up till the last hours of night and resisting sleep when the body is in desperate need of it results in serious health problems.
Fajr Prayer
The fajr (dawn) prayer is amongst the most important acts of worship, being one of the five obligatory prayers. Unfortunately many of us have become so used to missing it at its prescribed time, which ends at sunrise – that we have forgotten its position in our religion, and barely feel anything is wrong when we wake up in the morning for work or school without having performed the fajr prayer. On the other hand, if one of us was to miss a job interview or a flight, we all know how disappointed he or she would feel. Therefore I thought I’d prepare this article as a reminder to myself first, then to all my brothers and sisters.
Muslims should know the great status of fajr in the sight of Allah. Allah (SWT) says (interpretation of the meaning) “Establish regular prayers at the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and the recital of the Qur’an in the fajr prayer, for the recital of the fajr is witnessed” (Al-Israa 17:78) In addition, the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever prays the fajr prayer in congregation, it is as if he (or she) had prayed the whole night long.” [Muslim & Tirmidhi].
Now, to show the seriousness of missing this prayer, we present the Hadeeth of the Prophet (PBUH) “The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are ishaa and fajr, but if they only knew what they contain, they would come even if they had to crawl.” [Ahmad]
The practical aspect of dealing with the problem includes a number of steps which we can take in order to get used to praying fajr regularly in congregation:
Having a sincere intention and being determined, when going to sleep, that you will get up for fajr
Remembering Allah as soon as you wake up. Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) said, “During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, ‘The night is long, so keep on sleeping.’ If that person wakes up and remembers Allah, then one knot is undone. When he (or she) performs ablution (wudu) the second knot is undone. And when he (she) prays, all the knots are undone, and he (she) gets up in the morning lively and in a good mood, otherwise he (she) gets up dull and gloomy.” [Bukhary]
Sleeping early. According to an authentic Hadeeth, the Prophet (PBUH) used to dislike sleeping before ishaa and talking after it. The kind of talk that is discouraged in this case, as the commentators explain, is that in which there is no clear benefit. However, if it is for good reason, such as studying, speaking to a guest, or spending time with one’s family, then there is nothing wrong with it. This has no connection with the reasons for which many people stay up late nowadays, to do wrong and commit sins.
Family members should encourage one another, and likewise roommates sharing the same apartment.
If you know a friend who normally wakes up on time, ask him or her to give you a call at prayer time. I have been using this technique on and off for quite some time now, and have found it to be extremely effective.
If you find that you switch off the alarm clock then go back to sleep, you might want to place it a few feet from your bed. This way you will actually have to get up and walk to the clock in order to turn it off.
Try using an alarm clock with the snooze feature.
Avoid eating too much before going to bed. Overeating makes you fall into a deep, heavy sleep.
Finally, true devotion to Allah is the best thing to motivate a person to get up for prayer, because Allah alone controls all means of help. I ask Allah Almighty to facilitate this prayer for us, and to guide us to what pleases Him.
