Moat Kay Waqt

Three Laughs And Three Tears
ABU Al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Three (people) make me laugh, and three make me cry.
Those that make me laugh are
1. A person who puts his hopes in this worldly life while death pursues him,
2. A person who is heedless (of his Lord) while (his Lord) is not heedless of him, and
3. A person who always laughs while he does not know whether he has pleased Allah or angered Him.
What makes me cry is being separated from my beloved:
1. Muhammad and his party (the Companions),
2. The horrors of the time of death, and
3. Standing in front of Allah on the Day when the secrets will be revealed and I do not know if I will then go to Paradise or Hell?”
– Ibn Al-Mubarak, Al-Zuhd wa Al-Raqa’iq.
How To Increase One’s Iman?
If a sick person doesn’t realize that they are sick, the doctor will never be able to cure her. So realizing that there is a spiritual sickness is a sign that your faith is strong. I have the following words of advice for you:
Al-Haakim reported in al-Mustadrak, and al-Tabaraani reported in al-Mu jam, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Faith wears out in the heart of any one of you just as clothes wear out, so ask Allah to renew the faith in your hearts. (Reported by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak, 1/4;. Al-Haythami said in Majma al-Zawaa id, 1/52, It was reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer and its isnaad is saheeh. ) This Hadith tells us that our faith will become weak but we will have to strengthen it with various actions and different good deeds. If we try to implement the following, In Sha Allah it will help us all.
On a weekly basis, try to attend some Halaqah or an Islamic gathering. That is a great way of keeping the battery of Iman and actions charged.
A good suggestion would be that you join some weekend or evening Islamic course or something of that sort. You will find good company there which will be a means of strengthening your faith and Iman. And when you feel like you are all burnt out , there will be others there who will guide you and help you out and get you back up on your feet again.
Try to read some portion of the Quran everyday and make Zikr of Allah. It will not be a bad idea to start off the day by reciting Surah Yaseen.
Try to have a daily Halaqah of reading from a Hadith book at home. The most widely used Hadith book in English is probably Riyadh us Salihin. Set aside a time at home, and try to sit down with other family members. It does not have to be long. Even five minutes or ten minutes will suffice. A daily dose of the words of Allah and his beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe Wasallam goes a long way in keeping us attached to our faith.
After prayers or whenever, try to recite as many times as possible the words which are mentioned in the following Hadith: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Do not forget to say in every prayer, Rabbi a inni ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibaadatika (O Allah, help me to remember You, thank You and worship You properly.). (al-Nasaa i, 1303)
Remembering The Inevitable
“Verily, Allah! With Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware (of things).” (Qur’an, 31:34)
What thoughts cross our minds on a daily basis? Thoughts about our families, jobs, what the latest fashions are, money that is owed to us, problems we are facing, but who thinks about the one thing that is guaranteed? We all continue with our everyday jobs and responsibilities, however, when was the last time we stopped to really contemplate about death? I mean people are dying every day and will continue to die, but just how much impact does it have on our lives?
As Muslims we believe that the present life is a trial for the next realm of existence. We all know people who have died and mourned them, whilst simultaneously, life continues. Death is a reality and it is the only thing that we can be sure about – there is no escaping it and no delaying it. When our appointed time draws near, the angel of death will come to take back to Allah what is rightfully His. And no one is exempted from this. Allah said:
“Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).” (Qur’an, 3:185)
The prophets died and experienced the pangs of death, something that we all will face. The questioning in the grave, the squeezing of the grave and the punishment of the grave are all awaiting us. These actions are real and we need to protect ourselves so that our time in the grave is made easier.
Three questions will be asked in the grave that seem easy to answer now, but do not be fooled, as our souls will be the ones answering and it will depend upon how we have lived in this life. How much do we remember Allah? How many times do we finish reciting the Qur’an? Are we really fulfilling the obligations to our kith and kin? Do we backbite our brothers and sisters, which Allah has compared with eating the flesh of a dead brother?
These are all important questions that we need to ask. If we find that our response to these is not in accord with what is expected, then we need to make a change now. It will be too late for a change after death.
Throughout this life, when we sleep, our souls depart from our bodies and enter an unknown world.
“It is Allah Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep. He keeps those (souls) for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed. Verily, in this are signs for a people who think deeply.” (Qur’an, 39:42)
Knowing that, are we thankful to Allah for returning our souls to our bodies?
The Angel of Death never misses the appointed time, it will be their duly to take the soul. If the soul is that of a believer who spent the life in doing good deeds and avoiding sins, it comes out with ease, and angels give good news of the awaiting reward.
If the soul is that of some who did not believe and spent the life in sins and disobedience, it, having realized the reality, tries best to hide, but is forcefully pulled out in agony and pain.
Allah said in the Qur’an:
“Verily, those who say: “Our Lord is Allah (Alone),” and then they stand firm , on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): “Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised!” (Qur’an, 41:30)
After death, nothing will help us except three things that have been mentioned in a famous Hadith of Sahih Muslim: “If a human dies, then his good deeds stop except for three: a Sadaqa Jariah (continuous charity), a beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
Some things we, the living, can do for those who have passed away are: Making Du’a for them, seeking Allah’s forgiveness for them, give charity on their behalf, and do Haj or Umrah for them.
Abdullah Bin Umar’s advice is a good reminder to end this article with: “If you live until the evening, then do not expect to live until the following morning. And if you live until the morning, then do not expect to see the evening. Take from your health for your sickness and from your life for your death.” (Al-Bukhari)
Be Quick In Doing Good
Allah (SWT) says in Qur’an: ‘And be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, And for a Garden whose width is that of The Heavens And The Earth, Prepared for the Righteous.’ (3:133)
‘Go in Competition for Good deeds.’ (2:138)
By viewing these ayats of the Qur’an we can see that Allah(SWT) has ordered Muslims to rush towards performing good deeds. To such an extent that one should ‘compete’ with others in its application.
It is not unlawful to compete in matters in Deen, yet today we have taken the opposite approach and are competing with each other in worldly matters, which by no means is lawful, in most instances to the disregard of all religious obligations.
RasulAllah (saw) said: ‘In the matter of worldly resources always look at those who are at a lower level than you. In matters relating to religion, keep the company of those who are superior to you, and at a higher level than you.’ (Tirmizi)
Only through Obedience to the commands of Allah(SWT) and the Sunnah of RasulAllah (saw) can one obtain ‘peace and prosperity’ in both worlds.
Imam Shafi(RA) used to say: ‘Peace & prosperity are one thing and the means of peace & prosperity are another.’ This is because these two qualities in the life of a Muslim are a gift itself from Allah(SWT).
Abu Hurairah(RA) relates that RasulAllah(SWT) said: ‘ Make haste to do good deeds before the arrival of 7 things, as after their arrival the opportunity to do good will not be available: poverty, affluence, illness, old age, death, Dajjal, Qiyamah.’
The meaning is one should not defer good deeds for tomorrow as there is no telling what tomorrow may hold. Allah(SWT) is the one who does as he wishes, who’s to say he will give guidance to us tomorrow for good deeds or Islam even?
Dear Brothers and Sisters let us continue with the good deeds we were carrying out in the month of Ramadan throughout the year so that we may become close to Allah (SWT).
Six fasts in the month of Shawwal.
It is commendable to keep six fasts in the month of Shawwal. RasulAllah(saw) has said: ‘Whoever completes fasts of Ramadan then adds to them the fast of six days in the month of Shawwal, it will carry the reward of fasting for the whole year.’
(Muslim) Note: these fasts can be kept consecutively or separately throughout the month of Shawwal. May Allah(SWT) guide us to carry out good deeds in abundance, May Allah(SWT) accept our actions and Duas, save us from his displeasure through his infinite Mercy in this world and the next. Aameen. Lessons From Death
Life slips away second by second. Are you aware that every day brings you closer to death or that death is as close to you as it is to other people?
We are told in the Qur’an: “Everyone shall taste death. Then unto Us, you shall be returned (29:57).
Everyone on this earth is destined to die. All nations that thrived in one time or another throughout history came to an end. Today, we hardly come across the traces of many of these people who passed away. Those currently living and those who will ever live will also face death on a predestined day. Despite this fact, people tend to see death as an unlikely incident.
Think of a baby who has just opened its eyes to the world and a man who is about to take in his last breath. Neither had an influence on their birth or death whatsoever. Only God possesses the power to inspire the breath of life or to take it away.
All human beings will live until a certain day and then die. In the Qur’an, Allah gives an account of the attitude commonly shown toward death in the following verse.
“Say (to them): “Verily, the death from which you flee, will surely meet you, then you will be sent back to (Allah) the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will tell you what you used to do.” (62:8)
The majority of people avoid thinking about death. In the rapid flow of daily events, people usually occupy themselves with totally different subjects: what college to enroll in, which company to work for, what color of clothing to wear the next morning, what to cook for supper, etc.
These are the kinds of major issues that we usually consider. Life is perceived as a routine process of such minor matters. Attempts to talk about death are always interrupted by those who do not feel comfortable hearing about it.
Assuming death will come only when people grow older, they do not want to concern themselves with such an unpleasant subject. Yet it should be kept in mind that living for even one further hour is never guaranteed. Every day, people witness the deaths of other people around them but think little about the day when others will witness their own death. People never suppose that such an end is awaiting them!

500 Years of Worship
Angel Jibrail (as) told Rasulullah (peace be upon him) the following incident about a man in the past who worshiped Allah Ta’ala continuously for 500 years. He was granted shelter on top of a mountain that was surrounded by salty water. However, Allah caused a stream of sweet water to flow through the mountain for that individual. The man would drink from this water and use it to make ablution. Allah Ta’ala also raised a pomegranate tree from which the man would eat one fruit every day.
One day, this person supplicated to Allah that, “Oh Allah, bring my death while I am in the state of prostration.” Allah accepted this dua of his. Whenever Jibrail (as) came down to the Earth, he found this man prostrating to Allah. Jibrail (as) said that on the day of Judgement, Allah will tell the angels to take this individual to Paradise through His mercy. However, this man will insist that he should enter paradise through the good deeds that he had performed.
Then, Allah will tell the angels to compare his good deeds with the blessings that were given to him in the world. It will be seen that 500 years of his worship does not even equal the gift of eyesight that was given to him by Allah. The angels will be asked to take him towards the hell fire. Then the man will plead, “Oh Allah! Enter me into Paradise only through Your mercy.” At that point, the following discussion will take place between Allah and that man.
Allah: Oh my servant, who created you?
The worshipper: Oh Allah, You have created me.
Allah: Were you created because of the good deeds you have done or because of My mercy?
The worshipper: Because of Your mercy.
Allah: Who granted you the ability to worship for 500 years?
The worshipper: Oh the Almighty! You have granted me that ability.
Allah: Who placed you on the mountain surrounded by the ocean? Who caused a stream of sweet water to flow in between the salty water? Who caused a pomegranate tree to grow for you? Who granted you death while in the state of prostration?
The worshipper: Oh the Sustainer of the Worlds! You have done all of these.
Then Allah will say, “All these have happened due to My mercy and you too will enter Paradise only through My Mercy.”
We can never thank Allah for the blessings that He has given us. Let us use these blessings to recognize Allah before our death.
