Wrongfully Consuming An Orphan’s Property (Part 1)

Allah, the Most High, says, {Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans eat up fire into their own bodies: they will soon be enduring a blazing fire.} (Al-Nisa’: 10)

The Qur’an also states, {Come not nigh to the orphan’s property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength.} (Al-Imran: 152)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “When I was taken up in Ascent (Mi’raj), I saw some men gapping their jaws under the coercion of other men. Then came another men who fed them stones of fire that penetrated their bodies and came out from their anus. I wondered: ‘Who are they, Gabriel?’ He replied, ‘They are those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a fire into their bodies.” (Reported by Muslim)

When You Deal With Each Other In Contracting A Debt

[2. Surah Al-Baqarah: Ayah 216] “And it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is evil for you, and Allah knows, while you do not know.”

[2. Surah Al-Baqarah: Ayah 282] “O you who believe! when you deal with each other in contracting a debt for a fixed time, then write it down; and let a scribe write it down between you with fairness; and the scribe should not refuse to write as Allah has taught him, so he should write; and let him who owes the debt dictate, and he should be careful of (his duty to) Allah, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it; but if he who owes the debt is unsound in understanding, or weak, or (if) he is not able to dictate himself, let his guardian dictate with fairness; and call in to witness from among your men two witnesses; but if there are not two men, then one man and two women from among those whom you choose to be witnesses, so that if one of the two errs, the second of the two may remind the other; and the witnesses should not refuse when they are summoned; and be not averse to writing it (whether it is) small or large, with the time of its falling due; this is more equitable in the sight of Allah and assures greater accuracy in testimony, and the nearest (way) that you may not entertain doubts (afterwards), except when it is ready merchandise which you give and take among yourselves from hand to hand, then there is no blame on you in not writing it down; and have witnesses when you barter with one another, and let no harm be done to the scribe or to the witness; and if you do (it) then surely it will be a transgression in you, and be careful of (your duty) to Allah, Allah teaches you, and Allah knows all things.”

[2. Surah Al-Baqarah: Ayah 283] “And if you are upon a journey and you do not find a scribe, then (there may be) a security taken into possession; but if one of you trusts another, then he who is trusted should deliver his trust, and let him be careful (of his duty to) Allah, his Lord; and do not conceal testimony, and whoever conceals it, his heart is surely sinful, and Allah knows what you do.”

Who Is Allah?

It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used in reference to God and sometimes to lesser deities. This is not the case with Allah. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word god which can be made plural, gods, or feminine, goddess. It is interesting to notice that Allah is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic.

The One True God is a reflection of the unique concept that Islam associates with God. To a Muslim, Allah is the Almighty, Creator, and Sustainer of the universe, Who is similar to nothing and nothing is comparable to Him. The Prophet Muhammad was asked by his contemporaries about Allah; the answer came directly from God Himself in the form of a short chapter of the Quran, which is considered the essence of unity or the motto of monotheism. This is chapter 112 which reads:

“In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Say (O Muhammad) He is God the One God, the Everlasting Refuge, who has not begotten, nor has been begotten, and equal to Him is not anyone.”

Some non-Muslims allege that God in Islam is a stern and cruel God who demands to be obeyed fully. He is not loving and kind. Nothing can be farther from the truth than this allegation. It is enough to know that, with the exception of one, each of the 114 chapters of the Quran begins with the verse: “In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.” In one of the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we are told that “God is more loving and kinder than a mother to her dear child.”

But God is also Just. Hence evildoers and sinners must have their share of punishment and the virtuous, His bounties and favors. Actually, God’s attribute of Mercy has full manifestation in His attribute of Justice. People suffer throughout their lives for His sake and people oppressing and exploiting other people all their lives should not receive similar treatment from their Lord. Expecting similar treatment for them will amount to negating the very belief in the accountability of man in the Hereafter and thereby negating all the incentives for a moral and virtuous life in this world. The following Quranic verses are very clear and straightforward in this respect:

“Verily, for the Righteous, are gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord. Shall We then treat the people of Faith like the people of Sin? What is the matter with you? How judge you?” (68:34-36)

Islam rejects characterizing God in any human form or depicting Him as favoring certain individuals or nations on the basis of wealth, power, or race. He created the human beings as equals. They may distinguish themselves and get His favor through virtue and piety only.

The concept that God rested on the seventh day of creation, that God wrestled with one of His soldiers, that God is an envious plotter against mankind, or that God is incarnate in any human being are considered blasphemy from the Islamic point of view.

The unique usage of Allah as a personal name of God is a reflection of Islam’s emphasis on the purity of the belief in God which is the essence of the message of all God’s messengers. Because of this, Islam considers associating any deity or personality with God as a deadly sin that God will never forgive, despite the fact He may forgive all other sins.

[Note that what is meant above applies ONLY to those people who die in a state wherein they are associating others with God. The repentance of those who yet live is acceptable to God if He wills. – MSA of USC]

The Creator must be of a different nature from the things created because if he is of the same nature as they are, he will be temporal and will therefore need a maker. It follows that nothing is like Him. If the maker is not temporal, then he must be eternal. But if he is eternal, he cannot be caused, and if nothing outside him causes him to continue to exist, which means that he must be self-sufficient. And if he does not depend on anything for the continuance of his own existence, then this existence can have no end. The Creator is therefore eternal and everlasting: “He is the First and the Last.”

He is Self-Sufficient or Self-Subsistent or, to use a Quranic term, Al-Qayyum. The Creator does not create only in the sense of bringing things into being, He also preserves them and takes them out of existence and is the ultimate cause of whatever happens to them.

“God is the Creator of everything. He is the guardian over everything. Unto Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth.” (39:62, 63)

“No creature is there crawling on the earth, but its provision rests on God. He knows its lodging place and its repository.” (11:6)

God’s Attributes
If the Creator is Eternal and Everlasting, then His attributes must also be eternal and everlasting. He should not lose any of His attributes nor acquire new ones. If this is so, then His attributes are absolute. Can there be more than one Creator with such absolute attributes? Can there be, for example, two absolutely powerful Creators? A moment’s thought shows that this is not feasible. The Quran summarizes this argument in the following verses:

“God has not taken to Himself any son, nor is there any god with Him: For then each god would have taken of that which he created and some of them would have risen up over others.” (23:91)

And Why, were there gods in earth and heaven other than God, they (heaven and earth) would surely go to ruin.” (21:22)

The Oneness of God
The Quran reminds us of the falsity of all alleged gods. To the worshippers of man-made objects, it asks: “Do you worship what you have carved yourself?” (37:95)
“Or have you taken unto you others beside Him to be your protectors, even such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?” (13:16)

To the worshippers of heavenly bodies, it cites the story of Abraham: “When night outspread over him he saw a star and said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘I love not the setters.’ When he saw the moon rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord.’ But when it set he said, ‘If my Lord does not guide me I shall surely be of the people gone astray.’ When he saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord; this is greater.’ But when it set he said, ‘O my people, surely I quit that which you associate, I have turned my face to Him Who originated the heavens and the earth; a man of pure faith, I am not of the idolaters.'” (6:76-79)

The Believer’s Attitude
In order to be a Muslim, i.e., to surrender oneself to God, it is necessary to believe in the oneness of God, in the sense of His being the only Creator, Preserver, Nourisher, etc. But this belief – later on called “Tawhid Ar-Rububiyyah” – is not enough. Many of the idolaters knew and believed that only the Supreme God could do all this, but that was not enough to make them Muslims. To tawhid ar-rububiyyah one must add tawhid al’uluhiyyah, i.e., one acknowledges the fact that is God alone Who deserves to be worshipped, and thus abstains from worshipping any other thing or being. Having achieved this knowledge of the one true God, man should constantly have faith in Him, and should allow nothing to induce him to deny truth.

When faith enters a person’s heart, it causes certain mental states which result in certain actions. Taken together these mental states and actions are the proof of true faith. The Prophet said, “Faith is that which resides firmly in the heart and which is proved by deeds.” Foremost among those mental states is the feeling of gratitude towards God which could be said to be the essence of ‘ibada’ (worship).

The feeling of gratitude is so important that a non-believer is called ‘kafir’ which means ‘one who denies a truth’ and also ‘one who is ungrateful.’

A believer loves and is grateful to God for the bounties He bestowed upon him, but being aware of the fact that his good deeds, whether mental or physical, are far from being commensurate with Divine favors, he is always anxious lest God should punish him, here or in the Hereafter. He, therefore, fears Him surrenders himself to Him, and serves Him with great humility. One cannot be in such a mental state without being almost all the time mindful of God. Remembering God is thus the life force of faith, without which it fades and withers away.

The Quran tries to promote this feeling of gratitude by repeating the attributes of God very frequently. We find most of these attributes mentioned together in the following verses of the Quran:

“He is God; there is no god but He, He is the Knower of the unseen and the visible; He is the All-Merciful, the All-Compassionate. He is God, there is no God but He. He is the King, the All-Holy, the All-Peace, the Guardian of Faith, the All-Preserver, the All-Mighty, the All-Compeller, the All-Sublime. Glory be to God, above that they associate! He is God the Creator, the Maker, the Shaper. To Him belong the Names Most Beautiful. All that is in the heavens and the earth magnifies Him; He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” (59:22-24)

“There is no god but He, the Living, the Everlasting. Slumber seizes Him not, neither sleep; to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who is there that shall intercede with Him save by His leave? He knows what lies before them and what is after them, and they comprehend not anything of His knowledge save such as He wills. His throne comprises the heavens and earth; the preserving of them oppresses Him not; He is the All-High, the All-Glorious.” (2:255)

“People of the Book, go not beyond the bounds in your religion, and say not as to God but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only the Messenger of God, and His Word that He committed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His Messengers, and say not, ‘Three.’ Refrain; better is it for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him – (He is) above having a son.” (4:171)

Have You Made Your Will?

‘It is not right for any Muslim who has anything to bequeath that they may pass even two nights without having their will written.’ (Prophet of Allah (saw))

Under English law, if someone dies without having written a will his or her property does not automatically pass on to those who the deceased would have chosen to be the natural inheritors. Furthermore, inheritance tax may have to be paid to the government from the estate of the deceased, and many legal complications will have to be sorted out to save the distress of the deceased’s heirs.

In Britain, about 70% of people die without making a will, this means that their hard-earned property – their home, savings, and personal belongings – are not distributed amongst their relatives as they would have liked.

Making a will is simple. However, to maker sure that your will is legally valid you should get professional advice from a solicitor. A Muslim solicitor will be in a better position to help you in matters of dividing your estate according to Shari’ah (Islamic Law).

Before seeing a solicitor you should make sure of the following:
Calculate the value of your estate Your estate is money, land, property, and all other material possessions after deducting all your liabilities such as outstanding debts, loans, etc.

Appointment of executor(s) Executor(s) is the persons who carry out the instructions contained in a will. You can choose between one and four people such as your spouse, relative, a friend, or anyone whom you trust. It can even be your solicitor or a combination of these people.

Find two witnesses Witnesses cannot be the people who will benefit from your will.

Appoint a guardian If you have any children under the age of 18 years, it is advisable to appoint a guardian for them in case they are left without both parents. Make sure the appointed guardian is willing to take responsibility.

A will according to the Shari’ah should contain the following:
A declaration of your faith in Islam.
Instructions to the executors/relatives of your will to bury your body according to the rites prescribed in Islam.
Directions to your executors/relatives to pay your funeral expenses and debts including debts to Allah (such as Zakah).

Directions to your executors and other authorities to pay legacies or bequests to charities, Islamic institutions, friends, or relatives who are not considered heirs under Islamic law.

This portion must not exceed one-third of your entire estate after burial costs, debts and other expenses have been paid, except when a person has no surviving blood relatives.

Directions to your executors and other authorities to divide the remaining two-thirds of your estate amongst your heirs into shares fixed according to Shari’ah (Islamic Law).

Legacies are usually gifts of money.
Bequests are usually gifts or items of property.
Estate is your money, property, and material possessions.

Leaving Sadaqah
Leaving a contribution in your will in the form of sadaqah to some charitable institution is surely a great and noble decision. It will be deemed as sadaqah-i-jariah (an everlasting sadaqah).

In your will, you can leave parts of your estate as sadaqah, such as:
A gift of money.
An item of value such as a house, a car, etc.
A share of your residuary estate (the residuary of your estate is the sum total left after paying out debts, bills taxes).

Beauty, Virtue And Obligation Of Hijab

Our sisters in Islam are probably more enthusiastic in practicing and learning Islam than brothers. Women usually outnumber men in Islamic lectures and classes. They are active and may Allah reward them for their endurance. But sometimes they are not properly encouraged or guided when they begin to observe the Hijab. Perhaps she has reached the age of puberty and her Wali (guardian) has instructed her only without educating her about it. Perhaps she has recently reverted to Islam and her close sisters have told her of its obligation. A sister who does not truly know the excellence and virtue of Hijab will always remain envious of non-Muslim women. Why? Because they see them looking ‘beautiful’ for all to see. Hence, the Muslim woman then compares herself with them and feels ‘ashamed’ of her own Hijab.

This is, therefore, a reminder to our sisters about the superiority of Hijab. It is a reminder that Hijab will always reign supreme and that a true Muslim man will forever be dazzled by the beauty of the Muhijabah (woman who wears the Hijab).

Why Hijab?

1. Act of obedience
The Hijab is an act of obedience to Allah and to his Prophet (peace be upon him), Allah says in the Qur’an: “It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His messenger have decreed a matter that they should have an option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, has indeed strayed in a plain error.” (Qur’an, 33:36)

After commanding men to lower their gaze, Allah said: “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things) and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc) and not to show off their adornment except what must (ordinarily) appear thereof, that they should draw their veils over their Juyubihinna.” (Qur’an, 24:31)

Juyubihinna: Scholars have differed whether the veil cover of the body must include the hands and face or not. While some say it’s obligatory to cover the face and hands, others say it is recommended to do so.

2. Modesty
Allah made the adherence to the Hijab a manifestation for chastity and modesty. Allah says: “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) over their bodies (when outdoors). That is most convenient that they should be known and not molested.” (Qur’an, 33:59). In this verse there is an evidence that public display of a woman’s beauty is harmful to her. When the cause of attraction ends, the restriction is removed. This is illustrated in the case of elderly women who may have lost every aspect of attraction. Allah made it permissible for them to lay aside their outer garments reminding, however, that is still better for them to keep their modesty.

3. Purity and honor
Allah revealed us the Hikma (wisdom) behind the legislation of the Hijab: “And when you ask them (the Prophet’s wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and their hearts.” (Qur’an, 33:53)

The Hijab seeks greater purity for the hearts of believing men and women, because it screens the desires. Hijab blocks the sight, prevents Fitna and minimizes the chances of any ill thoughts and greed of sickened hearts.

“…Be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy or evil desire for adultery, etc) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner.” (Qur’an, 33:32)

4. Shield
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah, Most High, is Ha’yeii (Bashful), Sit’teer (Shielder). He loves Haya’ (Bashfulness) and Sitr (Shielding; Covering).” The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “Any woman who takes off her clothes in other than her husband’s house (to show off for unlawful purposes), has broken Allah’s shield upon her.”

Moreover, the Hijab fits the natural bashfulness as part of the nature of women.

5. Piety
Allah says in the Qur’an: “O children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts, etc) and as an adornment. But the raiment of righteousness, that is better.” (Qur’an, 7:26) The widespread forms of dresses in the world today are hardly a cover and shield for the woman’s body. For Muslims dress is also an act of Taqwa (righteousness).

6. Gheerah (Sense of honor)Wome
Hijab also protects a man’s Gheerah. A normal man will not like others to gaze at his wife or daughter, because he is protective about them and has that feeling of protective jealousy. Gheerah is the emotion that drives a man to safeguard his womenfolk from strangers. A Muslim man has Gheerah for all Muslim women. But free intermingling of sexes and absence of Hijab destroys the Gheerah in men. Islam considers Gheerah an integral part of faith. The dignity of the wife or daughter or any other Muslim woman must be highly respected and defended.

Everyone Is Responsible

Ibn ‘Umar(RA) narrated that the Prophet(SAWS) said,”Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects. The ruler who has authority over people, is a guardian and is responsible for them. A man is guardian of his family and is responsible for them. A woman is a guardian for her husband’s house and children, and is responsible for them. A slave is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible for it. So, all of you are guardians and are responsible for your charges.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim).

Resenting seeking leadership
Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah(RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah(SAWS) said:”O Abdur-Rahman! Do not seek to be a ruler, because if you are given authority on asking for it, then it will be a burden on you; but if you are given it without asking for it, then you will be helped in it (by Allah).” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim).

Abu Dhar(RA) narrated: I said: “O Messenger of Allah, will you not appoint me for a public office?” He stroked my shoulder with his hand and said:”O Abu Dhar, you are weak and authority is a trust, and on the Day of Resurrection it is a cause of humiliation and sorrow except for him who fulfills its obligations and (properly) discharges the duties thereon.” (Sahih Muslim).

Ruler’s reward
Abu Hurairah(RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAWS) said: “A ruler (of the Muslims) is a shield for them. They fight behind him, and they are protected by him. If he enjoins fear of Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious, and dispenses justice, there will be a reward for him; and if he enjoins otherwise, he will receive its consequences.” (Sahih Muslim).

Reward for discharge of responsibility justly
Abdullah bin ‘Umar(RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah(SAWS) said: ” Behold! The dispensers of justice will be seated on the pulpits of light in proximity of Allah, on the right side of the Merciful, and Exalted. And both sides of Allah are right. Those who do justice in their rules, in matters relating to their families and in all that they undertake to do.” (Sahih Muslim).

Religion is sincerity and goodwill
Tamim Ad-Dari(RA) narrated that the Prophet(SAWS) said: “Religion is sincerity and goodwill.” We asked: “For whom?” He said: “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of Muslims and the Muslims in general.” (Sahih Muslim).

Jarir(RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah(SAWS) was given pledge by me to perform the prayers, to pay Zakat, and to offer sincere advice to every Muslim.
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim).

 

Raising Children In An Islamic Way

EVERY child is born on Fitrah (man’s innate disposition to Monotheism), his parents make him Jewish, Christian or a fire worshiper.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim ) Allah Almighty has entrusted parents with their children. Parents bear the responsibility to raise up their children in the Islamic way. If they do that they will be blessed in this life and in the Hereafter, and if they don’t, they will get bad result during their life and in the Hereafter.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said : “All of you are guardians and all of you are responsible for things under your guardianship; the ruler is a guardian (managing his state‚s affairs) and he is responsible for things under his care, the man is a guardian over his family and responsible for them, the woman is a guardian of her husband’s house and she is responsible for it. All of you are guardians and responsible for things under your control.” (Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

The Prophet (peace be upon him), did not excuse anyone from responsibility that Allah has put on every individual to build the Islamic society: the ruler is responsible: the man and woman are responsible…. all within their capabilities, domains, and authorities… and the loss of Islam from our Muslim Ummah these days is nothing but a result of the neglect of responsibility.

Men and women, fathers and mothers share the responsibility to raise up, educate, and build the new generation in the correct method and the right way.

Man has in him the good and bad tendencies, so parents must encourage and grow the good tendencies in the child so he can become a useful person that helps himself and his people. Referring to this, Allah Almighty says: “O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones . . .” (At-Tahrim, 66:6)

The protection of yourself and your family from Hell-Fire won’t be with anything but good education, the observance of good morals, and the guidance to nobility.

Islam does not distinguish between male and female with regard to the education requirements. The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have said: “Whoever has a daughter, tutors her on good morals, educates her well and feeds her properly; she will be a protection for him from Hell-Fire.”

What do we mean by good education? The good education means the physical, mental and moral preparation of the child so he can become a good individual in the good society.

Methods for moral upbringing
1- Showing the values of good deeds and their effects on the individuals and society; also showing the effects of bad deeds, all within the child’s capability of understanding.

2- Parents should be a good example in their behavior because children like to imitate their parents in their sayings and their deeds.

3- Teaching the child the religious principles and tutoring him in matters of worship, taking into account the child’s capability of understanding. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “Order your children to pray at the age of seven.”

4- Treating children nicely and kindly. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us that practically. When he was leading the prayer, his grandson Al-Hasan, son of his daughter Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with them, rode on his back while he was bowing. The Prophet (peace be upon him), lengthened his bow. When he finished his prayer, some attending Companions said, “You lengthened your bow?” Then the Prophet (peace be upon him), answered, “My grandson rode on my back and I hate putting him down quickly.”

5- One of the important things that parents must teach their children is to choose the good company and to avoid the bad one, because children are always influenced by the company they keep. The bad behavior can be easily transmitted through bad company. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned us by saying, “Man is inclined to get influenced by his friend’s manners, so one must be careful in choosing friends.” (Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi)

6- Encouraging the child’s sense of belonging to the Muslim Ummah, by teaching him about the brotherhood among Muslims, teaching him to care for Muslims in any land, and that he is part of the Muslim body, to feel joy when Muslims are joyous, to feel sad over Muslims’ sadness, and to do best to achieve the Muslim Ummah’s goals.

All of this can be done practically through:
A- Taking children to Mosques and introducing them to their brothers in Islam regardless of race, language, or origin.

 B- Teaching the children the life history of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his Companions and the history of Islam, bearing in mind the child’s capability of understanding.

 C- Encouraging children to sympathize with Muslim problems and to contribute to the solutions such as the poverty problem and to donate some money to the hungry Muslim children.

 D- Taking part in the celebrations and festivals with Muslims, and joining in picnics and developing ties with their Muslim brothers of the same age.

7- Teaching children the love of Allah, His Prophet (peace be upon him), Muslims, and all people. This love will lead to special behavior towards all those loved people.

These are general guidelines to raise our children Islamically, so every Muslim must take care of his children and know the correct path that must be followed. This will help us do the job we are entrusted to do as Allah prescribed, as well as the responsibility the Prophet (peace be upon him), has clarified, with aim of protecting the future generations of Muslims.

Islam – Balance Between Individual And Society

A unique feature of Islam is that it establishes a balance between individualism and collectivism. It believes in the individual personality of man and holds everyone personally accountable to God.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says: “Everyone of you is a guardian, and responsible for what is in his custody. The ruler is a guardian of his subjects and responsible for them; a husband is a guardian of his family and is responsible for it; a lady is a guardian of her husband’s house and is responsible for it, and a servant is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible for it.”

The Prophet also said, “A man is a guardian of his father’s property and is responsible for it, so all of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and things under your care.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Islam also guarantees the fundamental rights of the individual and does not permit anyone to tamper with them.

It makes the proper development of the personality of man one of the prime objectives of its educational policy. It does not subscribe to the view that man must lose his individuality in society or in the state.

In Islam, all men are equal, regardless of color, language, race, or nationality. It addresses itself to the conscience of humanity and banishes all false barriers of race, status, and wealth. There can be no denying the fact that such barriers have always existed and continue to exist even today in the so-called enlightened age. Islam removes all of these impediments and proclaims the ideal of the whole of humanity being one family of God.

Islam is international in its outlook and approach and does not admit barriers and distinctions based on color, clan, blood, or territory, as was the case before the advent of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Unfortunately, these prejudices remain rampant in different forms even in this modern age. Islam wants to unite the entire human race under one banner. To a world torn by national rivalries and feuds, it presents a message of life and hope and of a glorious future.

A complete record of teachings preserved
Last, but not least, is the fact that the teachings of Islam have been preserved in their original form. As a result, Allah’s guidance is available without adulteration of any kind. The Qur’an is the revealed book and word of Allah, which has been in existence for the last 1,400 years. It is still available in its original form. Detailed accounts of the life of the Prophet and of his teachings are available in their pristine purity. There has not been even one change made in this unique historic record.

The saying and the entire record of the life of the Prophet have been handed down to us with unprecedented precision and authenticity in the works of the Hadith and the Seerah (the Prophet’s Biography). Even a number of non-Muslim critics admit this eloquent fact.

These are some of the unique features of Islam that establish its credentials as the religion of man, the religion of today, and the religion of tomorrow. These aspects have appealed to millions of people in the past and the present and have made them affirm that Islam is the religion of truth and the right path for mankind.

Narrated by Abdullah(Radhiallah o anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges. The ruler who has authority over people is a guardian and is responsible for them, a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for them; a woman is a guardian of her husband’s house and children and is responsible for them; a slave (‘Abu) is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible for it; so all of you are guardians and
are responsible for your charges.”
