Abdullah Bin Mas’ud (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah s Messenger (peace be upon him) who is the most truthful said: Verily your creation is in this wise. The constituents of one of you are collected for forty days in his mother s womb in the form of blood, after which it becomes a clot of blood in another period of forty days. Then it becomes a lump of flesh and forty days later Allah sends His angel with instructions concerning four things, so the angel writes down his livelihood, his death, his deeds, his fortune, and his misfortune. By Him, besides Whom there is no god, that one amongst you acts like the people deserving Paradise until between him and Paradise there remains but the distance of a cubit, when suddenly the writing of destiny overcomes him and he begins to act like the denizens of Hell and thus enters Hell, and another one acts in the way of the denizens of Hell until there remains between him and Hell a distance of a cubit that the writing of destiny overcomes him and then he begins to act like the people of Paradise and enters Paradise

The Messenger of Allah (saw) mentioned all the sins that will lead one to Hell. Muslim reports from ‘Iyadh bin Himaar that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, during a lengthy khutbah:
“..the people of Hell are five: the weak who lack the power to (avoid evil); the (carefree) who pursue (everything irrespective of whether it is good or evil) and who have no concern for their families or their wealth; the dishonest people whose greed cannot be concealed even in the case of minor things; and those who betray you, morning and evening, with regard to your family and your property. He also mentioned misers, liars, and those who are in the habit of abusing people and using obscene, foul language”. (Muslim in Kitaab al-Jannah wa Sifaat Na’imihaa Baab as-Sifaat allaatee yu’raf bihaa fid-dunyaa ahl al-Jannah wa ahl an-Naar, 4/2197 no. 2865)

Hell – Definition And Explanation
Hell is the abode that Allah (SWT) has prepared for those who do not believe in Him (SWT), those who rebel against His (SWT) laws and disbelieve in His Messengers. It is the punishment for His (SWT) enemies, the prison for evildoers.
It is the ultimate humiliation and loss; there is nothing worse:
“Our Lord! Verily, whom You admit to the Fire, indeed, You have disgraced him, and never will the Dhaalimoon [polytheists and wrongdoers] find any helpers” (3:192)
“Know they not that whoever opposes and shows hostility to Allah and His Messenger, certainly for him will be the fire of Hell to abide therein? That is an extreme disgrace“. (9:63)
“The losers are those who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Verily, that will be a manifest loss!” (39:15)
How could Hell be other than what we have described when it is full of utterly indescribable torment, pain, and grief? It is eternal and its inhabitants will remain there forever. Allah (SWT) has condemned them and their place in the Fire:
“Evil indeed it [Hell] is as an abode and as a place to dwell” (25:66)
“This is so! And for the Tagheen [transgressors] – will be an evil final return – Hell! Where they will burn, and worst [indeed] is that place to rest!” (38:55-6)

The Gates of Hell
Allah has told us that Hell has seven gates, as He (SWT) said: “And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. It [Hell] has seven gates, for each of these gates is a [special] class [of sinners] assigned“. (15:43-44)
Ibn Katheer commenting on this ayah, said: “This means that each gate has been allotted its share of the followers of Iblees who will enter it, and they will not be able to avoid it. May Allah (SWT) protect us from it. Each will enter a gate according to his deeds, and will be assigned to a level of Hell according to his deeds.”
It was reported from ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (ra) that he said, during a khutbah (sermon): “The gates of Hell are such-and-such”. Abu Harun said, “They are in layers, one above the other”. It is reported that he also said, “The gates of Hell number seven, one above the other. The first will be filled, then the second, then the third, until all of them are filled.” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 4/162)
When the disbelievers come to Hell, its gates will be opened, and they will enter it, to remain there forever:
“And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups, till, when they reach it, the gates thereof will be opened [suddenly like a prison at the arrival of the prisoners]. And its keepers will say, “Did not the Messengers come to you from yourselves – reciting to you the Verses of your Rabb, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours”. They will say, “Yes” but the Word of torment has been justified against the disbelievers“. (39:71)
After they are admitted, they will be told:
“Enter you the gates of Hell, to abide therein. And [indeed] what an evil abode of the arrogant!” (39:72)
These gates will be shut upon the evildoers, and they will have no hope of ever escaping from them after that, as Allah (SWT) says, “But those who reject Our Signs, they are the [unhappy] Companions of the Left Hand. On them will be Fire vaulted over [all round].” (90:19-20)
Ibn ‘Abbaas said, “vaulted” (literally: “shut over them”) means that the gates will be locked”. al-Mujaahid pointed out that the word used (mu’sadah) is the word used in the dialect of Quraysh to mean “locked” or shut” (Tafseer Ibn Katheer 7/298)
In the Qur’an Allah (SWT) says:
“Woe to every [kind of] scandalmonger and backbiter, who piles up wealth and lays it by. Thinking that his wealth would make him last forever! By no means! He will be sure to be thrown into that which Breaks to Pieces. And what will explain to you that which breaks to pieces? The Fire of [the wrath of] Allah, kindled [to a blaze], which mounts [right] to the heart. It shall be made into a vault over them, in columns outstretched.” (104:1-9)
Death On Juma’a
On the virtues of Jumu’ah, eminent scholars have written books including Allama Suyuti(rahmatullahi alaiyh). In one of his books, he stated that whoever dies on Jumu’ah(day or night) ie. [Thursday night after Maghrib to – before Maghrib of Friday] is not interrogated in the grave.
Hakeem and Tirmizi(rahmatullahi alaiyhum) have stated that it is clear what position a person is granted by Allah when a person dies on Jumu’ah. Hell(Jahannam) is not lighted on that day and its days are shut down. Hence, death on Friday is auspicious because it is granted to those only whose destiny has been fixed as auspicious.
According to Allama Suyuti(rahmatullah alaiyh), a man who dies on Jumu’ah, is rewarded as a martyr and is exempted from interrogation at the grave. (Sharhassadur)
It is stated by Sayyidina Jabir(radhiyallahu anhu) that the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said that whoever dies on Jumuah is saved from the tribulation of the grave and will come bearing the signs of martyrs on the Day of Judgement. (Hulia, Abu Naim)
According to Sayyidina Ayaas bin Bakeer(radhiyallahu anhu) , the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said that whosoever dies on Friday day or night, is granted reward of the martyr and is saved from the trial of the grave. (Targheeb)
Sayyidina Ibn Umar(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said that, if a believer dies on Friday, Allah exempts him from the trial of the grave. There is such a moment on that day that prayers are granted. The sins of the believers are rubbed off and one year’s compensation is awarded for every step towards the Masjid for Jumu’ah prayer. Friday is the most virtuous day of the week and all the souls assemble and introduce one another. (Ahmad, Tirmizi, Baiyhaqi)
Sayyidina Akrama bin Khalid(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said that whoever dies on Friday day or night dies in perfect belief and is saved from the tribulations of the grave. (Baiyhaqi)
Allama Qurtubi(rahmatullahi alaiyh) mantains that these narrations are not contradictory to those in which interrogation of the grave is mentioned. But it makes it clear that Allah has exempted certain servants whom He is pleased and it is Allah’s discretion only and is not subject to questioning and ALLAH IS MOST JUST AND KNOWS BEST.
Your Parents Are Your Paradise And They Are Your Hell
DUTIES TOWARDS PARENTS
The Holy Quran and Sunnah have laid great emphasis on meting out the treatment to the parents. Serving the parents well has been declared a highly virtuous act and a great asset in this world as well Hereafter, Our parents deserve our greatest regard obedience, and service after Allah and His Messenger.
Almighty Allah has decreed:
Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Allah and that you be kind to parents.
The spiritual and moral duties are not brought into juxtaposition. We are to worship none but Allah because none but Allah is worthy of worship. Here we are asked to show kindness to our father and mother. It means parental love should be to us a type of divine love, Our spiritual advancement is tested by this. We cannot expect Allah’s forgiveness if we are rude or unkind to those who unselfishly brought us up.
Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Masud (Allah be pleased with him) states:
I submitted to the Messenger of Allah ( peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as to which act Allah likes best.
The Messenger of Allah ( peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
The prayer offered in time.
Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Masud (Allah be pleased with him) submitted:
What it that Allah likes next best
The Messenger of Allah ( peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
Good treatment of your mother and father.
Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Masud (Allah be pleased with him) again submitted:
The Messenger of Allah ( peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
Jihad in the way of Allah. (Bukhari, Muslim)

A Prostitute Was Forgiven By Allah
Author: Syeda Muneeba Masood
Allah is merciful and forgiving. We being his creatures cannot imagine how our Lord showers His blessings over us.
People who seem to be sinners to others are sometimes greatly blessed by the mercy of Allah. Any act done with pure intention is worth it for Allah and He rewards us more than our imagination. And a little particle of sin may make us lose Allah’s blessings and take us to Hell, no matter how punctual we are in performing the obligations of Islam.
That’s why we should not make any justifications for the good deeds and sins of others. Allah is watching all of us. We are tiny human beings, The Lord is all-knowing.
If you go through the following Hadith extracted from Sahi Bukhari, you will realize that a good deed that seems to be very little time-consuming can save a person from Hellfire.
* Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “A prostitute was forgiven by Allah, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allah forgave her because of that.” (Book #54, Hadith #538)
In the above Hadith a prostitute for forgiven by Allah because of the kind-heartedness she showed towards a living being.
* Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, ‘This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that mine. So he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth, and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?” He replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate.” (Book #40, Hadith #551)
The above is another event extracted from history, which is about a man who gave water to a thirsty dog and he was forgiven by Allah.
* Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar: Allah’s Apostle said, “A woman was tortured and was put in Hell because of a cat which she had kept locked till it died of hunger.” Allah’s Apostle further said, (Allah knows better) Allah said (to woman), ‘You neither fed it nor watered when you locked it up, nor did you set it free to eat the insects of the earth.” (Book #40, Hadith #553)
On the other hand, the above Hadith gives us a great lesson. This Hadith is enough to realize that every act done by us is recorded in the books of Allah. The woman who was not a prostitute was put in Hell because of the violence she showed for an innocent cat.
No doubt the performance of obligations of Islam is a must for a Muslim but good deeds and bad deeds also play a very important role in our lives here and hereafter.
This world is the first and the last place to earn rewards for the hereafter. Silently compete with each other to earn rewards.
