The Virtues of Ramadan

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam ‘ala Rasulillah

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Ramadan – Nawafil Prayers
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam)said, “Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven .”

Ramadan – Umra in Ramadan equivalent to Hajj
Narrated by Ibn Abbas (Radhiallaho anho):
When Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) returned after performing his Hajj, he asked Um Sinan Al-Ansari, “What did forbid you to perform Hajj?” She replied, “Father of so-and-so (i.e. her husband) had two camels and he performed Hajj on one of them, and the second is used for the irrigation of our land.” The Prophet said (to her), “Perform ‘Umra in the month of Ramadan, (as it is equivalent to Hajj or Hajj with me (in reward).”

Ramadan – Fasting on one’s behalf
Narrated by Aisha (Radhiallaho anha):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam)said, “Whoever died and he ought to have fasted (the missed days of Ramadan) then his guardians must fast on his behalf.”

Ramadan – Suhur
Narrated by Anas bin Malik (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam)said, “Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it.”

Safeguarding Our Kids

The Messenger of Allah[peace be upon him] has mentioned, “When the night approaches then prevent your children (from venturing outdoors) because verily Shaitaan spreads out at this time, …..” (Hadith-Sahih Bukhari).

In another narration, Rasulullah[pbuh] has stated,
” Don’t let your animals and children out from the time the sun sets until the first portion of darkness passes (i.e. Esha time sets in), for indeed Shaitaan sets out from the time the sun sets until the first portion of darkness passes by.” (Hadith-Sahih Muslim)

Safeguarding our children from the evil elements that lurk in our environment is an incumbent duty of the parents, just as it is incumbent to safeguard them from all other evils.

The tendency today is to allow children the freedom to roam out of the house during this time when the Shayateen and their evil influences are at their strongest.

From the above narrations, we learn that parents are duty-bound to ensure that children are given the necessary protection during this time in an Islamic environment.

May Allah Ta’ala protect our innocent children from all forms of evil. Aameen

A Good Dream Is From Allah

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Narrated by Abu Qatada(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “A good dream is from Allah, and a bad or evil dream is from Satan; so if anyone of you has a bad dream of which he gets afraid, he should spit on his left side and should seek refuge with Allah from its evil, for then it will not harm him.”

Retaliation On The Day Of Judgment

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Allah’s Apostle said, “When the believers pass safely over (the bridge across) Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise where they will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world, and when they get purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise. By Him in Whose Hands the
life of Muhammad is everybody will recognize his dwelling in Paradise better than he recognizes his dwelling in this world.”

Best Deed

Narrated by Abu Dhar (Radhiallaho anho):
I asked Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) , “What is the best deed?” He replied, “To believe in Allah and to fight for His cause.” I then asked, “What is the best kind of manumission (of
slaves)?” He replied, “The manumission of the most expensive slave and the most beloved by his master.” I said, “If I cannot afford to do that?” He said, “Help the weak or do good for a person who cannot work for himself.” I said, “If I cannot do that?” He said, “Refrain from harming others for this will be regarded as a charitable deed for your own good.”

Everyone Is A Guardian And Is Responsible For His charges

Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges. The ruler who has authority over people is a guardian and is responsible for them, a man is a guardian of his family and is responsible for them; a woman is a guardian of her husband’s house and children and is responsible for them; a slave (‘Abu) is a guardian of his master’s property and is responsible for it; so all of you are guardians and
are responsible for your charges.”

A Muslim Should Not Oppress Another Muslim

Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a
Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection. ”

One Who Takes Back His Gift

Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “One who takes back his gift (which he has already given) is like a dog that swallows its vomit.”

Compensation for a gift
Narrated by Aisha(Radhiallaho anha):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) used to accept gifts and used to give something in return.

The superiority of giving gifts
Narrated by Abu Huraira(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “O Muslim women! None of you should look down upon the gift sent by her she-neighbor even if it were the trotters of the sheep (fleshless part of legs).”

The Prophet (PBUH) said “Pass on knowledge from me even if it is only one verse”

Example Of A Good Companion

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Narrated by Abu Musa(Radhiallaho anho):
Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is I like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith’s bellows (or furnace); from the first, you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.”

Helping The Oppressed

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

Narrated by Muawiya bin Suwaid (Radhiallaho anho):
I heard Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib saying, “Allah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) orders us to do seven things
(1) To pay a visit to the sick (inquiring about his health),
(2) to follow funeral processions,
(3) to say to a sneezer, “May Allah be merciful to you” (if he says, “Praise be to Allah!”),
(4) to return greetings,
(5) to help the oppressed,
(6) to accept invitations,
(7) to help others to fulfill their oaths
