Who Are Jinn And Why Allah Created Them

[1:1] In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
[51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.

Peace be upon you, All the jinns are descendants of Satan. They are created from blazing fire.

[18:50] And remember when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblis, who was one of the jinn, but he rebelled against the command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his descendants as patrons instead of Me, although they are your enemy? What an evil alternative for the wrongdoers to choose!

[15:26] We created the human being from aged mud, like the potter’s clay.
[15:27] As for the jinns, we created them, before that, from blazing fire.

Jinn are companions of unrighteous humans. They whisper bad ideas to righteous humans, but cannot influence them by God’s grace. Adam was the first human who was influenced by the Jinn Satan. All the descendants of Adam are subsequently whispered or influenced by the descendants of Satan, the jinns.

[6:128] The day will come when He summons all of them (and says): “O you jinns, you have claimed multitudes of humans.” Their human companions will say, “Our Lord, we enjoyed each other’s company until we wasted the life span You had set for us.” He will say, “Hell is your destiny.” They abide therein forever, in accordance with GOD’s will. Your Lord is Wise, Omniscient.

[6:129] We thus match the wicked to be companions of each other, as a punishment for their transgressions.

[7:27] O children of Adam, do not let the devil dupe you as he did when he caused the eviction of your parents from Paradise, and the removal of their garments to expose their bodies. He and his tribe see you, while you do not see them. We appoint the devils as companions of those who do not believe.

[7:200] When the devil whispers to you any whisper, seek refuge in GOD; He is Hearer, Omniscient.

Like humans, jinns can be righteous or unrighteous. The righteous human can have a good influence over jinns and can make them righteous.

[72:1] Say, “I was inspired that a group of jinns listened, then said, `We have heard a wonderful Quran.”
[72:2] “It guides to righteousness, and we have believed in it; we will never set up any idols beside our Lord.”
[72:3] “The Most High is our only Lord. He never had a mate, nor a son.”
[72:4] “It is the foolish among us who used to utter such nonsense about GOD.”
[72:5] “We thought that neither the humans nor the jinns could possibly utter lies about GOD.”
[72:6] “Human beings used to seek power through jinn beings, but they only afflicted them with a lot of adversity.”
[72:7] “They thought, just like you thought, that GOD would not send another (messenger).”
[72:8] “We touched the heaven and found it filled with formidable guards and projectiles.”
[72:9] “We used to sit there in order to spy. Anyone who listens is pursued by a powerful projectile.”
[72:10] “We have no idea if something bad is intended for the inhabitants of Earth, or if their Lord wills to redeem them.”
[72:11] “Some of us are righteous, and some are less than righteous; we follow various paths.”
[72:12] “We knew full well that we can never run away from GOD on Earth; we can never run away and escape.”
[72:13] “When we heard the guidance, we believed therein. Anyone who believes in his Lord will never fear any injustice, nor any affliction.”

Jinns have God-given enormous power, as noted from the Quran.

[15:16] We placed galaxies in the sky and adorned it for the beholders.
[15:17] And we guarded it against every rejected devil.
[15:18] If any of them sneaks around to listen, a mighty projectile will chase him back.

[27:38] He said, “O you elders, which of you can bring me her mansion before they arrive here as submitters?”
[27:39] One afrit from the jinns said, “I can bring it to you before you stand up. I am powerful enough to do this.”

No wonder why a heavenly creature Satan, the father of all jinns, thought that he could be a god besides God with his awesome power. He provoked the Great feud among the heavenly creatures. Among the heavenly creatures, the jinns supported Satan’s baseless thought. The human beings were ignorant. They wanted to verify his blasphemous thought and thus, committed the grave mistake!

[38:67] Say, Here is awesome news.
[38:68] That you are totally oblivious to.
[38:69] I had no knowledge previously, about the feud in the High Society.

[36:60] Did I not covenant with you, O Children of Adam, that you shall not worship the devil? That he is your most ardent enemy?
[36:61] And that you shall worship Me alone? This is the right path.
[36:62] He has misled multitudes of you. Did you not possess any understanding?

[18:50] And remember when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam,” so they all did—but not Iblis, who was one of the jinn, but he rebelled against the command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his descendants as patrons instead of Me, although they are your enemy? What an evil alternative for the wrongdoers to choose!

[33:72] We have offered the responsibility to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and were afraid of it. But the human being accepted it; he was transgressing, ignorant.

[7:172] Recall that your Lord summoned all the descendants of Adam, and had them bear witness for themselves: “Am I not your Lord?” They all said, “Yes. We bear witness.” Thus, you cannot say on the Day of Resurrection, “We were not aware of this.”

[7:173] Nor can you say, “It was our parents who practiced idolatry, and we simply followed in their footsteps. Will You punish us because of what others have innovated?”

All the descendants of Adam and descendants of Satan were exiled from the Kingdom of God to verify their blasphemous views. The earth became the kingdom of Satan for the final test. Humans are exposed to devil’s influence or whisper all the time in this Satanic Kingdom.

[2:36] But the devil duped them, and caused their eviction therefrom. We said, “Go down as enemies of one another. On Earth shall be your habitation and provision for a while.”

[51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.

[2:30] Recall that your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a representative (a temporary god) on Earth.” They said, “Will You place therein one who will spread evil therein and shed blood, while we sing Your praises, glorify You, and uphold Your absolute authority?” He said, “I know what you do not know.”

[21:111] “For all that I know, this world is a test for you and a temporary enjoyment.”

[7:12] He said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I ordered you?” He said, “I am better than he; You created me from fire, and created him from mud.”
[7:13] He said, “Therefore, you must go down, for you are not to be arrogant here. Get out; you are debased.”
[7:14] He said, “Grant me a respite, until the Day of Resurrection.”
[7:15] He said, “You are granted a respite.”
[7:16] He said, “Since You have willed that I go astray, I will skulk for them on Your straight path.
[7:17] “I will come to them from before them, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left, and You will find that most of them are unappreciative.”

May God guide all of us.

Do Not Put Off A Good That You Intend To Do

A man woke up early to pray the Fajr prayer in the Masjid. He dressed, made his ablution, and was on his way to the Masjid.

On his way to the Masjid, the man fell, and his clothes got dirty. He got up, brushed himself off, and headed home. At home, he changed his clothes, made his ablution, and was, again, on his way to the Masjid.

On his way to the Masjid, he fell again and at the same spot! He, again, got up, brushed himself off, and headed home. At home, he, once again, changed his clothes, made his ablution, and was on his way to the Masjid.

On his way to the Masjid, he met a man holding a lamp. He asked the man of his identity and the man replied, “I saw you fall twice on your way to the Masjid, so I brought a lamp so that I can light your way.” The first man thanked him profusely and the two were on their way to the Masjid.

Once at the Masjid, the first man asked the man with the lamp to come in and pray Fajr with him. The second man refused. The first man asked him a couple more times, and the answer was the same. The first man asked him why he did not wish to come in and pray. The man replied, “I am Satan.”

The man was shocked at this reply. Satan went on to explain, “I saw you on your way to the Masjid, and it was I who made you fall.

When you went home, cleaned yourself, and went back on your way to the Masjid, Allah forgave all of your sins. I made you fall a second time, and even that did not encourage you to stay home, rather, you went back on your way to the Masjid.

Because of that, Allah forgave all the sins of the people of your household. I was afraid if I made you fall one more time, then Allah would forgive the sins of the people of your village, so I made sure that you reached the Masjid safely.”

So do not let Satan benefit from his actions. Do not put off a good that you intend to do, as you never know how much reward you might receive from the hardships you encounter while trying to achieve that good.

Satan Eats And Drinks With His Left Hand

[Sahih Muslim: Volume 3, Book 23, Number 5007] Jabir b. ‘Abdullah (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam) having said: “Do not eat with your left hand, for Satan eats with his left hand.”

[Sahih Muslim: Volume 3, Book 23, Number 5008] Ibn ‘Umar (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam) as saying: “When any one of you intends to eat (meal), he should eat with his right hand. and when he (intends) to drink he should drink with his right hand, for Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand.”

[Sahih Muslim: Volume 3, Book 23, Number 5010] Salim (Radi Allah Anhu), on the authority of his father, reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam) as saying: “None of you should eat with his left hand and drink with that (left hand), for the Satan eats with left hand and drinks with that (hand). Nafi’ has made this addition in that:” Do not take up anything with that (left hand) and do not give anything with that.”

[Sahih Muslim: Volume 3, Book 23, Number 5012] ‘Umar b. Abu Salama (Radi Allah Anhu) reported: I was under the care of Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam), and as my hand used to roam about in the dish he said to me: “Boy, mention the name of Allah, and eat with your right hand and eat from what is near to you.”

Our Lord! accept from us; surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing.

Backbiting And Slander

And why did you not, when you heard it, say? “It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to God, this is a most serious slander” (Quran 24:16)

Islam is a religion of peace, love, and compassion. Lies, suspicion, back-biting, slander, and gossip are totally alien to Islam. In fact, they are considered among the most destructive of major sins. This is so because these sins sow enmity and discord among the Muslim Ummah and lead to its destruction. They cause hostilities between people of the same household, and between neighbors, friends, and relatives.

Islam demands that our relationship with mankind should be one of sincerity and responsibility. It should be one where we have respect for the honor, reputation, and privacy of others. Islam teaches us that we are not only held accountable for our attitudes and actions but also for anything else over which we have control or influence, in our society or the world around us.

Verses: Let’s see what the Quran states about backbiting and slander – ‘This is the Book, in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah’. (2:2)

Allah has forbidden the believers from backbiting
O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deeds some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah, verily, Allah is the one who accepts repentance, Most Merciful. (49: 12)

When we reflect deeply on this assimilation it should be enough to keep us away from backbiting! Do not treat the issue of Backbiting & Slander with indifference because it is a great sin

Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things which you had no knowledge; and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah (24: 15)

Many of us backbite and gossip without thinking. We think it is a minor matter, however, Allah reminds us to be careful and even though we think we are doing something little it is in fact huge in the sight of Allah!

Allah teaches us to speak out against Slander and try to put a stop to it
And why did you not, when you heard it, say? “It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to Allah, this is a most serious slander” (24:16)

Many people are so busy spreading the slander they hear that they do not even stop thinking if it is true. Shaitan (Satan) wants us to use our tongues to create conflict and hatred.

Say to My servants that they should only say those things that are best, for Satan does sow dissensions among them, for Satan is to man an avowed enemy. (17:53)

Are we falling into Shaitan’s (Satan’s) trap? We can all analyze ourselves.
Hadiths: Let’s see what Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said about Backbiting in the hadiths.
Allah states in the Quran – You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern of conduct. (33:21)

The Definition Of Backbiting And Slander
Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “Do you know what backbiting is?” They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He then said, “It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike.” Someone asked him, “But what if what I say is true?” The Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him.” (Muslim)
We should guard our tongue from sins and use our limbs in acts of obedience

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “Who protects his tongue from unlawful utterances and his private parts from illegal sexual intercourse, I shall guarantee him entrance into Paradise.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

The Definition Of The Best Muslim
“I asked the Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him): Who is the best Muslim? The Messenger of Allah(Peace Be Upon Him) replied, “He is the one from whom Muslims are safe from the evil of his tongue and hands.” (Muslim)

Deriding people in their presence by making negative facial expressions or by hand gestures while they are unaware is also a form of backbiting. We need to beware of the slipping of our tongues

“When man wakes up in the morning each day, all parts of the body warn the tongue saying, ‘Fear Allah as regards us for we are at your mercy; if you are upright, we will be upright and if you are crooked, we become crooked.’” (At-Tirmidhee)

Summary
Backbiting and slander are so widespread that it has become the topic of people’s meetings and an avenue for expressing their anger, misgivings, and jealousy. Those who indulge in backbiting are oblivious to the fact that they are only harming themselves. This is because of the fact that on the Day of Resurrection, both the wrongdoer and the wronged will stand before Allah, Who is the Just Judge, Allah will then give this wronged person from the good deeds of the person who wronged him by his wrong by backbiting.

Some situations allow us to inform others of what someone has done. It is allowed for us to inform the authorities when someone does injustice to us or others. It is allowed for us to inform someone who can help a perpetrator from committing further vice. It is also permissible for us to tell whoever seeks our advice on a person for business dealings or marriage. In this case, it is not allowed for us to hide what we know about the person so that the enquirer will not be deceived. All these types of speaking about others are lawful.

Islam teaches us that if people are being ridiculed or backbited in our presence, we should defend their honor. If we neglect this, we shall deprive ourselves of ever-needed help and mercy from Allah – If a man’s Muslim brother is slandered in his presence, and he is capable of defending him and does so, Allah will defend him in this world and the next. But if he fails to defend him, Allah will destroy him in this world and the next. (Baghawi). What will we do the next time we are tempted to backbite or hear slander in our presence? Right now the choice is ours!

We ask Allah the Most High, the All Powerful, to teach us that which will benefit us, and to benefit us by that which we learn. May Allah grant blessings and peace to our Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and his family and companions.

Stoning Satan: A Reminder To Break The Modern Idols

One of the rituals of Hajj is the throwing of pebbles at the three pillars of temptation that symbolize Satan when he tried to dissuade Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) from carrying out the command of Allah. The pile of broken umbrellas, huge rocks, and of course, rubber slip-ons of all hues piled around the pillars of temptation tell more than a story. The minor story, of course, is that some people come to Hajj unprepared and thus unaware of what to hurl at Satan. The major story is why only small pebbles are needed. Questions as to what to hurl and why only small pebbles are closely connected.

The completion of the rites of Hajj, as we know them, was executed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) after he removed all idols from the Ka’bah. The objects that needed major demolition equipment had been done away with and what now remain are fresh idols that keep cropping up at all times. The need for heavy demolition equipment does exist, but the heavy-duty stuff that needs to be removed are not big rocks of idols, but the rocks of corruption, greed, power, vanity, and self-indulgence. The equipment needed to remove these rocks are sincere doses of fear of Allah (Taqwa).

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), perhaps, the foremost idol-breaker, launched a mission against idolatry when it was the absolute norm – he stood firm against the tide of idol worship and challenged this deep-rooted social norm. Today, we live amidst a tide of idols.

However, these idols, although man-made like their predecessors, enjoy a form far more deceptive than the word idol usually conjures up for us. The modern-day idols of the love for power or recognition is taking many forms, and most often these idols in the guise of current-day social norms are not only hurtful to the individual but indeed to the community.

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was confronted with the same psychological and emotional challenges that confront us: making and worshipping idols was the norm, and in his case the family’s livelihood too.

This is where his greatness lies he was able to break from these barriers and demolish the idols. Yes, there was opposition, but none from within him. He felt no fear, no hesitancy in undoing his family’s source of income. He was driven by a desire to break the shackles of idolatry and establish the worship of One True God.

The jihad (struggle) of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is as relevant for us today as it was thousands of years ago.

Today, although it seems that no physical idols need to be broken, many idols confront us: there are still billions who are worshipping man-made idols, there are many who, drunk with power, are devastating human rights at will, and, above all, human beings live with false notions of wealth.

The popular ditty goes: “What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.” Humanity is held in deception and awaiting Muslims to break psychological and emotional idols and free themselves and the rest from this temporal world.

Significance Of Morning Prayer

[65. Surah At-Talaq: Ayah 2-3] And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him. And He provides for him from (sources) he never could imagine. And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, Allah will be sufficient for him.

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 243] Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words, ‘The night is long, so stay asleep.’ When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 245] Narrated ‘Abdullah (Radi Allah Anhu): A person was mentioned before the Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) and he was told that he had kept on sleeping till morning and had not got up for the prayer. The Prophet said, “Satan urinated in his ears.”

[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 21 Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 246] Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, “Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me so I may grant him his request? Is anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?”

Our Lord! accept from us; surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing.

How It All Started: – || – An Enmity That Will Always Remain

In the name of God, the Lord of Grace, the Ever Merciful

Said (God): ‘Iblis! What prevents you from bowing down to one whom I have created with My hands? Are you too proud, or do you deem yourself superior? Answered (Iblis): ‘I am better than he: You have created me out of fire but created him from clay.’ Said He: ‘Then get out from it: you are accursed; My rejection shall follow you until the Day of Judgment.’ Said (Iblis): ‘My Lord! Grant me a respite till Resurrection Day.’ Said He: ‘You are one of those granted respite till the day of the appointed time.’ (Iblis) then said: ‘I swear by Your very might: I shall certainly tempt them all except Your true servants.’ (And God) said: ‘This, then, is the truth! And the truth do I state: I will most certainly fill hell with you and such of them as shall follow you.’ Say: ‘No reward do I ask of you for this, and I am not one to claim what I am not. This is no less than a reminder to all the worlds, and in time you will certainly come to know its truth.’ (SAD: 38: 75-88)

We discussed how human life on earth started, and how Iblis, which is the Arabic name for Satan, refused to bow to Adam when God commanded him to do so. As a result, God questioned him about this and he gave the arrogant answer that he was better than Adam because the latter was created out of clay while he himself was created out of fire. Needless to say, no one can affront God with such arrogance and remain in a position of favor.

At this point, the divine order was issued expelling this rebellious creature: “Said He: Then get out from it: You are accursed; My rejection shall follow you until the Day of Judgment.” We cannot define the referent of the pronoun ‘it’. It could refer either to heaven, or to God’s grace. Both interpretations are possible. There needs to be no argument over this. In both cases the meaning is clear: Iblis was expelled and cursed as he incurred God’s displeasure by rebelling against His orders.

However, Iblis’s envy turned into a grudge and determination to avenge himself on Adam and his progeny: “Said (Iblis): My Lord! Grant me a respite till Resurrection Day.” God granted Iblis his request for some purpose, allowing him the chance he wanted: “Said He: You are one of those granted respite till the day of the appointed time.” Satan then revealed his goal which summed up his grudge: “(Iblis) then said: I swear by Your very might: I shall certainly tempt them all except Your true servants.” Thus Iblis defined his plan of action. He swore by the Lord of power that he would tempt all human beings, except those over whom he had no power. This was not a gesture of nobility on his part; but rather an acknowledgment of the uselessness of his efforts. Thus he told us about the barrier between him and those who are safe from, and immune to his temptation. It is their worship of God that makes them safe. This is in accordance with God’s design and will. God declares His will, defining the way ahead: “(And God) said: This, then, is the truth! And the truth do I state: I will most certainly fill hell with you and such of them as shall follow you.”

God always states the truth. The Qur’an repeatedly states this fact and re-emphasizes it in various ways. In this surah, there are several references to different aspects of the truth, such as the demand of the disputants who climbed the walls of David’s sanctuary that he should judge between them in fairness. The Arabic text adds clear connotations that the judgment should be made on the basis of truth. Similarly, the comments on David’s story refer to the creation of the heavens and the earth on the basis of the truth. Now, God Almighty reaffirms the truth, saying: “This, then, is the truth! And the truth do I state.” Thus, these references emphasize different aspects of the truth, but its nature is always the same. It includes this true promise: “I will most certainly fill hell with you and such of them as shall follow you.”

It is, then, a battle between Satan and Adam’s children: They go into it with full knowledge, aware of the consequences which are made clear in this true promise. They bear responsibility for their choices. Yet in His mercy, God has decided not to leave them without enlightenment. Therefore, he sent them His messengers to warn them.

At the end of the surah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) is instructed to say his final word: “Say: No reward do I ask of you for this, and I am not one to claim what I am not. This is no less than a reminder to all the worlds, and in time you will certainly come to know its truth.”

It is a sincere call to them to save themselves when the warning has been given and fate has been shown. The caller, advocating the truth, plain and simple, makes no false claims or pretensions, demanding no reward from anyone. He orders nothing except what sound human nature readily endorses. He simply delivers a reminder to the world, since people may forget or choose to be oblivious. They may ignore the great message that has been delivered to them, but they will eventually come to know its truth. Indeed within a few years of receiving this address, the Arabs knew the truth of this message, and they will come to know it on Judgment Day, when God’s promise will be fulfilled: “I will most certainly fill hell with you and such of them as shall follow you.”

Thus, the ending of the surah is in full harmony with its beginning as also with the themes and issues it has tackled. It is given in a powerful note suggesting that what is to come is grave indeed: “In time you will certainly come to know its truth.”

Satan Tempts Believer With False Desires

[ALLAH’S Quran – 4:118-119] “whom Allah has cursed. He (the Satan) said; Surely I will take an appointed share from Your slaves, and I will lead them astray, and I will tempt them with false hopes, and I will command them, whereby they shall slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them, whereby they shall alter the creation of Allah. Whoever takes Satan for friend, instead of Allah, incurs an obvious loss.”

The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said:
[Bukhari, Book #72, Hadith #815] “ Narrated ‘Abdullah: ALLAH has cursed those women who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those who remove their face hairs, and those who create a space between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, and such women as changing the features created by ALLAH. Why then should I not curse those whom the Prophet has cursed? And that is in ALLAH’s Book. i.e. His Saying: ‘And what the Apostle gives you take it and what he forbids you abstain (from it).’ (59.7)

[Bukhari, Book #34, Hadith#299] “Narrated ‘Aun bin Abu Juhaifa: My father bought a slave who practiced the profession of cupping. (My father broke the slave’s instruments of cupping). I asked my father why he had done so. He replied, “The Prophet forbade the acceptance of the price of a dog or blood, and also forbade the profession of tattooing, getting tattooed and receiving or giving Riba, (usury), and cursed the picture-makers.”

Why Islam Forbids Alcohol, Drugs?

Alcohol and narcotic drugs are now the greatest social problem all over the world.

It is said that Omar (later the Second Rightly-Guided Caliph) prayed: “O Allah give us a decisive indication about wine, it takes away the money and the intellect. (Ahmad) Allah revealed: “They ask you (O Muhammad) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: In them is great sin, and (some) benefits for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit.” (2:219)

Omar continued to pray: “O Allah indicate a manifest indication about wine.” Allah revealed: “O you who believe! Approach not As-Salat (the prayer) when you are in a drunken state until you know (the meaning) of what you utter.” (4:43)

Omar prayed again: “O Allah indicate us about wine.” Allah revealed: “O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling … are an abomination of Shaitan’s (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So will you not then abstain?” (5:90-91)

After hearing this revelation, Omar exclaimed: “We are refrained, we are refrained.”

The ban on the use of intoxicants was gradual. This evil was eradicated by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He warned about the curse of Allah on all those associated with it from production to its consumption.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whatever much of it intoxicates, then little of it is also prohibited.” (Abu Dawood from Jabir)

Abdullah Bin Omar is quoted to have said: “The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said that ‘Anybody who attributed to me anything which I did not say will go to Hell.'” After this Abdullah Bin Omar said: “I heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) saying ‘No doubt Allah has prohibited the wine, games of chance and the wine extracted from “Ghabeera” (a flower tree with fruit.)

Narcotic drugs are also banned in Islam. This ban was enforced in the 7th century for the welfare of humanity. The latest developments in medical science have proved the consumption of alcohol and narcotics to be a social evil causing great harm not only to society but also to human health. If we look into the expenditure incurred on drinks (intoxicants) in European and American countries we get an alarming figure of thousands of millions of dollars. France has the highest alcohol consumption. French men consume 200 million liters of alcoholic beverages every year.

Alcohol makes the man unstable and creates multifarious problems. It breaks the family ties and brings about a complete disruption in family life. The man under its influence fills the destructive bowl, gets excited with an urge to commit crimes, and does not hesitate to commit adultery, incest, and fornication.

Alcohol abuse presents society with a staggering bill. In the US, somewhere between $25 billion to $40 billion are lost in terms of labor productivity, treatment, and welfare. (Koffend 1979)

In 1979, the World Health Organization in a report stated that alcoholism is becoming a major problem in developing countries. In Zambia and Venezuela, the abuses of alcohol are linked with increasing crimes and are the major cause of road accidents. In South Africa, 75 percent of the population is affected directly by the adverse effects of alcoholism. In the US, 40 percent of all road accidents are due to alcohol abuse, and alcohol accounts for 50 percent of criminal arrests.

Man is a social animal. He is superior to animals by virtue of his mental faculties. If these faculties are impaired, he will act like an animal. Alcohol and narcotic drugs impair the higher centers of the brain as a result a man loses judgment, intellect, learning, reason, memory, and orientation. The lower centers of the brain are freed from the inhibiting influence of the higher centers causing excitement and animalistic behaviors. Owing to this, the intoxicated person behaves recklessly and becomes loquacious and loses self-control, totters, and is led by evil desires to commit crimes.

The following are the bodily harms or diseases of alcoholism observed by medical science.
1) Peripheral Neuritis, i.e. numbness and weakness in the nervous system.
2) Wernicks Encephalopathy, causing the disturbance in consciousness and neurological problems.
3) Korsakoffs Psychosis i.e. impairment of memory delusion.
4) Delirium Tremens. The alcoholic is confused, restless, misidentifies people and places, and has a severe tremor.
5) Cerebella degeneration.
6) Alcoholic gastritis causes heartburn, anorexia, nausea, and vomiting.
7) Pancreatitis. It may result in hemorrhage resulting in death.
There are some other severe diseases like cardiomyopathy abnormality of the rhythm of the heart and beriberi heart disease etc., etc.

The above facts make it crystal clear that alcohol and narcotic drugs not only take away the hard-earned money of the people but also their intellect and health and leave them worthless. Caliph Omar was wise when he prayed in the earlier 7th century for the ban saying intoxicants take away the money and the intellect. Allah the Omniscient, the All-Wise Who cares for the welfare of his bondmen banned intoxicants and delivered them from the pernicious evil.
Now in 21th century all the sensible world is making a lot of hues and cry to stop alcoholism only to learn that it is reaching epidemic proportions.

It is Islam that tackled all social evils and crimes and devised ways and means to save humanity from the menace of narcotics and alcoholism.

Functions Of Iblis/ Shaytan

Satan makes them promises and creates in them false desires, but satan’s promises are nothing but deception. [4:120]

The Evil one threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah promises you His forgiveness and bounties. And Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things. [2:268]

The Evil One has got the better of them: so he has made them lose the remembrance of Allah. They are the Party of the Evil One. Truly, it is the Party of the Evil One that will perish! [58:19]

O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. [5:90]

Satan’s plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain? [5:91]

Never did We send an apostle or a prophet before thee, but, when he framed a desire, Satan threw some (vanity) into his desire: but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in, and Allah will confirm (and establish) His Signs: for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom: [22:52]

Remember Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them and said: “No one among men can overcome you this day, while I am near to you”: But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned on his heels, and said: “Lo! I am clear of you; lo! I see what ye see not; Lo! I fear Allah. for Allah is strict in punishment.” [8:48]

“Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?- [36:60]

“He did lead me astray from the Message (of Allah. after it had come to me! Ah! the Evil One is but a traitor to man!” [25:29]

By Allah, We (also) sent (Our apostles) to Peoples before thee; but Satan made, (to the wicked), their own acts seem alluring: He is also their patron today, but they shall have a most grievous penalty. [16:63]

Verily Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy. He only invites his adherents, that they may become Companions of the Blazing Fire. [35:6]

O ye Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as He got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith. [7:27]

O ye who believe! Enter into Islam whole-heartedly, and follow not the footsteps of the evil one; for he is to you an avowed enemy. [2:208]

O ye who believe! follow not Satan’s footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will (but) command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but Allah doth purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows (all things). [24:21]

Say to My servants that they should (only) say those things that are est: for Satan doth sow dissensions among them: For Satan is to man an avowed enemy. [17:53]
