Stealing In Prayer

One of the worst forms of theft or cheating is cheating in prayer.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.
The people asked, O Messenger of Allah, how can a person steal from his prayer?
He said: By not doing rukoo and sujood properly.
(Reported by Imaam Ahmad, 5/310; see also Saheeh al-Jaami, 997).

This lack of composure and failure to pause in rukoo and sujood and to stand up straight after rukoo or sit up properly between sujoods may be observed in many of those who pray, and hardly any mosque is free of examples of people who do not have the proper composure in prayer. Correct composure is one of the pillars of prayer, without which prayer is invalid.

This is a serious matter.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: A man’s prayer is not good enough until his back is straight in rukoo and sujood.
(Reported by Abu Dawud, 1/533; see also Saheeh al-Jaamia 7224).

A Best Comprehensive Supplication

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) made many supplications that we did not memorize. We said to him:
O Messenger of Allah! (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) You have made many supplications of which we do not remember anything.

The Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) said, Should I not show you such a comprehensive dua that includes all duas? Say,


A comprehensive dua that includes all duas

 

(O Allah, I beg to You the good which Your Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) begged of You;
and I seek refuge in You from the evil where Your Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) sought refuge.
You are the One from Whom help is sought and Your is the responsibility to communicate (the truth). There is no power or strength except with Allah the Exalted, the Great.
[At-Tirmidhi]

Commentary:
For those who do not remember many prayers, or cannot remember them, this is the best supplication to make. This shows part of Allah’s Mercy upon his slaves and part of the easiness of practicing Islam.

 

Supremacy Of Congregational Prayer

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) Allah’s Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said:
The congregational prayer of anyone amongst you is more than twenty (five or twenty-seven) times in reward than his prayer in the market or in his house, for if he performs ablution completely and then goes to the mosque with the sole intention of performing the prayer, and nothing urges him to proceed to the mosque except the prayer, then, on every step which he takes towards the mosque, he will be raised one degree or one of his sins will be forgiven. The angels will keep on asking Allah’s forgiveness and blessings for every one of you so long as he keeps sitting at his praying place. The angels will say, O Allah, bless him! O Allah, be merciful to him! as long as he does not do Hadath or a thing which gives trouble to the other.

The Prophet further said, One is regarded in prayer so long as one is waiting for the prayer.
[Sahih Al-Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 34 Sales and Trade , Number 330]

Allah Says in The Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut Verse 45 Regarding Some Of The Wisdom Behind The Act Of Salaah :

O Prophet, Recite This Book (Al Quran) Which Has Been Revealed To You, And Establish The Salaat. Surely The Salaat Restrains From indecent And Evil Acts, And The Remembrance Of Allah is indeed The Greatest. And Allah knows Whatever You Do.

Duaa

DU’A AT THE TIME OF DISTRESS
“Has -bi -yal-laa-hu wa ni’- mal wa-keel”.
Allah (SWT) is sufficient for me and He is the Best Helper.

DU’A BEFORE SLEEPING
“Allahumma bismika amuutu wa ahyaa”.
O Allah (SWT)! With your name, I die and I live.

DU’A AFTER WAKING UP
“Alhamdulillaahillazi ahyaanaa ba’da maa amaata-naa wa ilaihinnushuur”.
All praise to Allah (SWT), Who revived us to life after giving us death, and to him, we shall have to return.

DU’A IN THANKFULNESS
“Yaa rabbil lakal”hamdu kama yanbaghii lijalaali wajhika, wa’aziimi sultaanik.”
O my Lord, all praises be to You as it should be due to Your Might and the Greatness of Your Power.

DU’A IN APPRECIATION OF OTHER’S KINDNESS
“Jazaakallaahu khairaa.”
May Allah (SWT) return your kindness.

DU’A FOR PARENTS
“Rabbighfir lii wa liwaalidayya wa lilmu”miniina yauma yaquumul’hisaab, Rabbirhamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanii shaghiiraa.”
O Lord, forgive me, my parents and Muslims in the Hereafter. O Lord, show mercy on them as they have nourished me when I was young.

DU’A BEFORE STUDYING
“Allaahumma infa’nii bimaa ‘allamtanii wa’allimnii maa yanfa’unii.”
O my Lord, make useful for me what you hath thought me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me.

DU’A FOR KNOWLEDGE
“Rabbi Zid-Nee ‘iL-Maa”
My Lord, increase me in Knowledge.

The Excellence Of The JUMMAH

Allah (SWT), the Exalted, says:
“Then when the (Jumu`ah) Salaah is ended, you may disperse through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allah (by working) and remember Allah (SWT) much: so that you may be successful.” (62:10)

1147. Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SWT) Nabi Muhammad (saw) said,
“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. On that day Adam (AS) was created, he was admitted to Jannah, and he was expelled therefrom.” [Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith tells us of the excellence of Jumu`ah. Many achievements were made on this day which also goes to prove its excellent position in Islam.

1156. Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah (SWT) Nabi Muhammad (saw) said while talking about the merits of Friday,
“There is a time on Friday at which a Muslim, while he (or she) is performing Salat and is supplicating, will be granted whatever he (or she) is supplicating for.” And Nabi Muhammad (saw) pointed with his hand to indicate that this period of time is very short. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith mentions another distinction of Jumu`ah, namely a moment in which every prayer that a person then makes is granted with the condition that what one is asking for is good and lawful. It is a very short moment and its time has also not been revealed. For this reason, one should remember Allah (SWT) frequently and pray to Him on Jumu`ah so that one attains that moment when prayers are answered. Prayers can also be answered outside Salaah if one happens to be supplicating at the specified moment.

1158. Aus bin Aus (RA) reported: Nabi Muhammad (saw) said,
“Among the best of your days is Friday. On that day pray to Allah (SWT) to exalt my name and mention frequently, for your such supplications are presented to me.” [Abu Dawud].

The Excellence Of Durood Shareef As Explained In The Ahadeeth

“Hadith” is an Arabic word which means “Holy Sayings”. It is the narration of all the affectionate words of advice uttered by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Salim) from time to time. These sayings (Ahadith) are instructions offered for the guidance of mankind, and to follow them is as important as daily prayers.

The famous books of Hadith are the following: Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Muwatta, Nisaai’, Ibn-Majah, Darmi, Baihaqi and Miskhaat Shareef.

Imam Bukhari (radi Allahu anhu), the compiler of Bukhari Shareef, took the greatest and painstaking precautions in making his collections of Ahadith and exerted to his utmost to achieve all accuracy and reliability possible. Hence, Ahadith quoted by Imam Bukhari (radi Allahu anhu) and his work on Ahadith stands as one of the wonders of intellectual achievement in Islamic History. He wrote all Ahadith in the sacred Haram of Madina Munawwarah. It is, therefore, that most of the Ahadith have been taken from the book of Bukhari Shareef.

Important Ahadith of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Salim) have been included here for the betterment, benefit guidance and gain of the readers of this book. If followed, the reader of these sayings will receive a permit to Paradise even in this world. Every saying opens door to Divine favour and sure success.

1. For every Durood Shareef that you recite, ten sins are forgiven, ten good deeds are entered into your sheet of actions and ten positions are upgraded.

2. Allah showers ten blessings on the man who recites a Durood.

3. The first man who will meet the Prophet (Sall Allahu alaihi wa Salim) on the Day of Judgement will be that person who had recited the Durood a maximum number of times in his lifetime.

Best Times To Make Duaa

There are certain times dua (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as mentioned by Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam).
These times are as follows:

1. The Last Third Of The Night
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: ‘In the last third of every night our Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) (Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala)) descends to the lowermost heaven and says; “Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that may I grant him? Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?.”‘
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Qudsi]

Amr ibn Absah narrated that the Prophet said: ‘The closest any worshipper can be to His Lord is during the last part of the night, so if you can be amongst those who remember Allah at that time, then do so.’
[at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i, al-Hakim – Sahih]

2. Late at night
When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) gives the believers an opportunity, or an answer hour if they can fight sleep and invoke Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) for whatever they need.

The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: ‘There is at night an hour, no Muslim happens to be asking Allah any matter of this world or the Hereafter, except that he will be given it, and this (occurs) every night.’
[Muslim #757]

3. Between Adhan and Iqamah
Anas (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: ‘A supplication made between the Adhan and Iqama is not rejected.’
[Ahmad, abu Dawud #521, at-Tirmidhi #212, Sahih al-Jami #3408, an-Nasai, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (sound)]

4. An Hour On Friday
Narrated Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu): Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) talked about Friday and said: ‘There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat (prayer) and asks something from Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), then Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will definitely meet his demand.’ And he (the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) pointed out the shortness of that particular time with his hands.
[Sahih al-Bukhari]

Some have said that this hour is from the time the Imam (prayer’s leader) enters the mosque on Friday’s prayer until the prayer is over (ie between the two khutbahs), whereas others have said that it is the last hour of the day (ie after the Asr prayer until the Maghrib prayer).
(Note: when we say an hour here we do not mean the hour everyone knows (60 minutes) but an unspecified period of time because the time counters which we use today came after the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) had died.

5. While Drinking Zamzam Water
Jaber (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: ‘Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.’
[Ahmad 3: 357 and Ibn Majah #3062]

This means that when you drink Zamzam water you may ask Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) for anything you like to gain or benefit from this water such as healing from illness…… etc.

6. While Prostrating
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam), said:
‘The nearest a slave can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so invoke (supplicate) Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) much in it.
[Muslim, abu Dawud, an-Nasa’i and others, Sahih al-Jami #1175]

When a Muslim is in his Salat (prayer) he is facing Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and when he prostrates he is the nearest he can be to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) so it is best to invoke Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) at this time.
It is said that while in prostration, one should not ask for worldly needs (ie a nice car, a new job, etc), but for the Hereafter.

7. When Waking Up at Night
Narrated Ubada Bin As-Samit that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: ‘Whoever wakes up at night and says
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shrika lahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shai’in qadir. Alhamdu lillahi, wa subhanallahi wa la ilaha illallahu, wallah akbir, wa la hawla wala quwata illa billah

(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) He is the only one who has no partners. His is the kingdom and all the praises are for Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) All the glories are for Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is the greatest and there is neither might nor power except with Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and then says, Allahumma ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me) or invokes Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala),

he will be responded to and if he makes ablution and performs Salat (prayer), his Salat (prayer) will be accepted.
[Sahih al-Bukhari]

8. At The End Of The Obligatory Salat:
Narrated Abu Omamah (radiAllahu anhu): that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) was asked, O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is heard (by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), he said the end of the night and at the end of the obligatory Salat (prayer)
[at-Tirmidhi]

This time is after saying ‘At-tahyat’, and before making Tasleem (finishing prayer)

9. The Night Of ‘Qadr’ (Decree)
This night is the greatest night of the year. This is the night which the almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) said about it, “The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better than a thousand months.”
[Surah al-Qadr, 97: 3]

The Night of Decree is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of the blessed month of Ramadan. The angels descend down to the earth, and the earth is overwhelmed with peace and serenity until the break of dawn when the doors of Paradise are opened, the worshipper is encouraged to turn to Allah to ask for his needs for this world and the Hereafter.
