Repentance (Taubah) Of Sinners
Almighty Allah states in the Qur’an: O Believers! Turn towards Allah’s Presence in perfect and most sincere repentance. Your Lord will certainly remove your sins from you and admit you to the Gardens with streams flowing under them. {Chapter 66: Verse 8}
And that you should seek forgiveness from your Lord, then submit your repentance before Him (with true heart). He will keep you glad and gratified with an excellent provision till an appointed term and will reward for merit everyone enjoying me (i.e. will bestow reward and ranks corresponding to one’s amount of righteous deeds and dedicated services). And if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. {Surah Hud Chapter 11: Verse 3}
What is Repentance?
A Hadith states that regret is repentance. Sunan Ibn-e-Maja,Hadith 4252,V4 P492 }
Remorse(nadamah) is the turning of the heart, in sorrow and regret, away from something which the servant has committed, and which angers Almighty Allah, such as sins or the neglect of obligatory acts. It may also occur following excessive involvement in permissible pleasures or the neglect of supererogatory devotions. A sincere remorse is one which leads to persevering in earnest And Avoiding neglectfulness. When sound, it includes Nearly All The Conditions Of Repentance-Tawba which is why The Prophet (PBUH) Has Said, May Blessings And Peace Be upon Him: ‘Remorse is repentance’.
Those Who Are Remorseful About their Misbehaviour, But Still persist in it, are only jesting and remorse will not avail them. Seeking forgiveness (istighfar) means asking Almighty Allah to forgive, which in turn means his concealing the misdeed [from the eyes of others.
When Almighty Allah, by his grace, forgives a sin, he neither exposes its doer to shame nor punishes him for it, whether in this world or in the next. The highest kind of forgiveness is for Almighty Allah to place a veil, a barrier, between the servant and sins, Until it is as though he were free of them.
What Are The Conditions Of True Repentance?
Almighty Allah accepts repentance if it is sincere (If the sinner includes regret (nadam)for what was done and resolve (azm) not to do it again. If you commit a sin, then think of it as bad. You should feel ashamed of committing the sin. Convince yourself and be committed that you will not do this sin ever again. Add to this, feeling of remorse and shame together with a firm intention never to repeat the sin. The origin of repentance is turning towards Allah.
It has four conditions:
(1) Acceptance of having sinned,
(2)Regret and
(3) Intention to stop.
(4) If the sin requires compensation, then this is compulsory.
For example, a person who has missed any salah must do Qada. If the sin involves another person, the person who has sinned must fix the wrong that he or she has done to someone. If we have said bad things, slandered someone backbit someone or stolen from or hurt another in any way, we have to ask the person who is wronged for forgiveness if possible, or somehow reverse the harm.
Repentance of Sinner from Bani Israel
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (Radi Allah Anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) as saying: “There was a person before you who had killed ninety-nine persons and then made an inquiry about the learned persons of the world (who could show him the way to salvation). He was directed to a monk. He came to him and told him that he had killed ninety-nine persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: No. He killed him also and thus completed one hundred. He then asked about the learned persons of the earth and he was directed to a scholar, and he told him that he had killed one hundred persons and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted. He said: “Yes; what stands between you and the repentance?
You better go to such and such land; there are people devoted to prayer and worship and you also worship along with them and do not come to the land of yours since it was an evil land (for you).” So he went away and he had hardly covered half the distance when death came to him and there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment. The angels of mercy said: “This man has come as a penitent and remorseful to Allah” and the angels of punishment said: “He has done no good at all. “Then there came another angel in the form of a human being in order to decide between them. He said: You measure the land to which he has drawn near. They measured it and found him nearer to the land where he intended to go (the land of piety), and so the angels of mercy took possession of it.[Sahih Muslim : Book 37, Book Name Kitab Al-Tauba Number 6662]

Guard Your Tongue
The tongue, the language and the mind, etc… are great gifts of Allah (SWT-Subhana Wa Ta’laa). These gifts that Allah has given to man make him superior to all other creatures. Islam has given special attention to speech, its style, its etiquette, and rules because the talk that comes out of a man’s mouth discloses his intellectual level and moral nature. Moreover, the etiquette of speech in a group reveals its general standard and shows the standard of decency in their environment.
Truthful, clean, and decent conversation impress both friends and foes (enemies, rivals, opponents), and its sweet fruits can be readily enjoyed. It guards love between friends.
A False Or Unkind Word May Destroy Many Relations
“Say (O Prophet!) to my slaves to speak which is kindlier. Verily, the devil sows discord among them. Verily, the devil is for man an open enemy.” (Surah Bani Israel 17:53)
“Not a word is said except that there is a guard (close observer) by him ready to record it.” [Surah Qaf (50:18]
On a Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do (Surah AlNur 24:24)
O you who believe, fear Allah, and be with those who are true. (Surah At-Tauba 9:119)
Narrated Abu Musa (RA): Some people asked Allah’s Apostle, “Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?” He replied, “One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands.” (Bukhari 1.10)
Prophet(PBUH) said I guarantee Paradise for …
Narrated Sahl bin Saad: Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) said, “Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his tongue and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him.” (Bukhari 8:481)
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should not hurt his neighbor and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest generously, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should talk about what is good or keep quiet.” (Bukhari 8/158)
A wrong word uttered by tongue the person may slip into hell fire
Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): He heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “A slave of Allah may utter a word without thinking whether it is right or wrong, he may slip down in the Fire as far away a distance equal to that between the east.”(and the west) (Bukhari 8:484; Muslim)
Which is among the dangerous acts that displease Allah (SWT)?
Narrated Abu Huraira(RA): The Prophet (PBUH); said, “A slave (of Allah) may utter a word which pleases Allah without giving it much importance, and because of that Allah will raise him to degrees (of reward): a slave (of Allah (SWT) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases Allah (SWT) without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell- Fire.” (Bukhari 8:485)

The Events Of Bani Isra’il Are A Lesson For Muslim
“And, in the Book, We declared to the children of Isra’il: ‘You will surely spread disorder on the earth twice, and you will surely show arrogance, a great arrogance. So, when came the time appointed for the first of the two, We sent upon you some servants belonging to us having strong aggressive power, who combed through the houses. And it was a promise bound to be fulfilled. Then We gave you your turn to overpower them, and increased your strength with wealth and sons, and made you greater in number. If you do good, you will do it for yourselves, and if you do evil, it will be for you, too. Later, when came the time appointed for the second, (We sent others) so that they spoil your faces, and so that they enter into the Mosque as the former ones had entered it the first time and destroy what they overpower, totally. Maybe your Lord would bestow mercy upon you. And if you do this again, We shall do that again. And We have made Jahannam a prison for the disbelievers. [Surah Al-Isra, Verses 4-8]
The outcome of the events mentioned above is that Allah Ta’ala decreed that the Bani Isra’il will be successful, having the best of both worlds, the material and the spiritual, as long as they continue to obey Allah. But, whenever they deviate from the dictates of Faith, they shall be put to disgrace, and they would be subjected to punishment at the hands of enemies and disbelievers. Then, not only that the enemies run over them destroying their lives and properties, but it would also happen that their Qiblah, their sacred Baytul-maqdis, would also not remain safe against the onslaught of that enemy. Their disbelieving enemies will barge into the Mosque of Baytul-maqdis and defile and damage it. This too will be a part of the punishment of Bani Isra’il themselves.
The Holy Qur’an has told us about two events relating to them. The first one dates back to the time of Mosaic religious law while the second pertains to the Christian. During both these periods, the Bani Isra’il rebelled against the divine law of the time. In the first case, a disbelieving Magian monarch was made to sit over them, and Baytul-maqdis, who brought great destruction upon them. In the second case, a Roman emperor was set against them who killed and pillaged and made Baytul-maqdis all demolished and rendered desolate. Along with this description, it has also been mentioned that the Bani Isra’il – when, on both occasions, they repented from their misdeeds resolving not to go near them again – Allah Ta’ala reinstated their country, wealth, and children.
After having mentioned these two events, Allah Ta’ala declared His Law in such matters by saying: (If you do this again, We shall do that again – 8). This law which means – ‘if you return to disobedience and contumacy, We shall, once again, make a similar penalty and punishment zoom back upon you’ – has been declared as valid right through the last day of Qiyamah. That its addressees were the people of Bani Isra’il who were present during the blessed time of the Holy Prophet serves as a reminder to them. It is being pointed out to them that they should not forget that they were seized by divine punishment twice when they had first opposed the code of Sayyidna Musa, and then the code of Sayyidna Isa.
Now this was the period of the Code of Laws brought by the Holy Prophet. This was a period that would continue up to the Last Day. Let them, therefore, realize that the fate of those who choose to be hostile to it will turn out to be no different. Consequently, this has actually happened. These people became hostile to Islam and the religious code of laws brought by the Holy Prophet. When they did that, they were expelled and disgraced at the hands of Muslims, and finally Baytul-maqdis, their Qiblah, too came under Muslim control. However, the only difference was that their past conquering kings had treated them disgracefully and had desecrated their Qiblah too. Now when Muslims took over Baytul-maqdis, they reconstructed the great Mosque of al-Quds ash-Sharif which had been demolished and desolate for centuries, and thereby reinstated the honour and reverence of the Qiblah of prophets.
The Events of Bani Isra’il are a Lesson for Muslims and What Has Happened to Baytul-maqdis in Our Time is a Part of the Same Chain. Obviously, the purpose of narrating these events relating to the Bani Isra’il in the Qur’an and making Muslims listen to them is to let Muslims understand that there are no exceptions to this divine law. Be it this mortal world or the eternal universe of their Faith, their honor and ascendancy, possessions, and wealth are inseparably tied with obedience to Allah. Whenever they veer away from their obedience to Allah and the Holy Prophet, their enemies and disbelieving tyrants of all sorts shall be empowered to prevail over them. When this happens, the desecration of their places of worship will also not remain too far.
The calamity of the Jewish usurpation of Baytul-maqdis in our time and the added sacrilege of setting fire to it have thrown the world of Islam into acute anxiety. In reality, it is confirming the Qur’an. Muslims forgot Allah and His Rasul, ignored the life waiting for them in the Hereafter, and opted to scrounge for their share in the glamour and grandeur of the mortal world. When they became aliens to the dictates of the Qur’an, and Sunnah, the same divine law stood activated before them.

Truly To Allah We Belong: Serve Allah Alone
[Allah’s Quran – 4:36] “Serve Allah, and associate no one with Him. Be kind and gracious to your parents; (also be kind) to the kinsfolk, the orphans, the needy, the neighbor who is a kin as well as the one who is not, the fellow traveler, the wayfarer, and the slaves (and captives). Of course, Allah does not like the conceited braggarts.”
[ALLAH’S Quran – 2:156] “Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly! To Allah, we belong and truly, to Him, we shall return”.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said:
[Bukhari, Book #48, Hadith #822] “Narrated Abu Bakra: The Prophet said thrice, “Should I inform you out the greatest of the great sins?” They said, “Yes, O Allah’s Apostle!” He said, “To join others in worship with Allah and to be undutiful to one’s parents.” The Prophet then sat up after he had been reclining (on a pillow) and said, “And I warn you against giving a false witness, and he kept on saying that warning till we thought he would not stop.”
The Prophet (peace be upon him) has said :
[Malik’s Muwatta, Book #16, Hadith #16.14.42] “If a misfortune befalls someone and he says, as Allah has ordered, ‘We belong to Allah and to Him we are returning. O Allah, reward me in my misfortune and give me better than it afterward,’ Allah will do that for him” (Inna Lillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajiun. Allahumma’ jurniy fi musiybatiy, wa a qibhiy khayran minha, illa faala ‘llahu dhalika bihi.). Umm Salama said, “When Abu Salama died I said that, and then I said, ‘Who is better than Abu Salama?’ ” And then Allah left her the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he married her.”

Prophet Of Islam (Peace Be Upon Him) With Guidance And Knowledge For The Mankind
[ALLAH’S Quran – 9:128] “INDEED, there has come unto you [O mankind] an Apostle from among yourselves: heavily weighs -upon him [the thought] that you might suffer [in the life to come]; full of concern for you [is he, and] full of compassion and mercy towards the believers.”
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said :
[Bukhari, Book #3, Hadith #79] “Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet said, “The example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it, and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends Allah’s religion and gets the benefit (from the knowledge) that Allah has revealed through me (the Prophets and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take Allah’s guidance revealed through me (He is like that barren land.)”
