Take Not Unbelievers As Friends Allies Or Helpers

[1] “Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination.” [3:28]

[2] “Those who take infidels for friends, instead of the believers. Seek they honor with them verily then honor is Allah’s altogether.” [4:139]

[3] “O you who believe, do not take the disbelievers for friends instead of the believers. Do you want to produce before Allah a clear evidence against yourselves?” [4:144]

[4] “O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.” [5:51]

[5] “O you who believe! do not take for guardians those who take your religion for a mockery and a joke, from among those who were given the Book before you and the unbelievers; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.” [5:57]

[6] “Thou seest many of them turning in friendship to the Unbelievers. Evil indeed is (the works) which their souls have sent forward before them (with the result), that Allah’s wrath is on them, and in torment will they abide.”
[5:80]

[7] “If they were indeed faithful to Allah and to the Prophet Muhammad and gave credence to the Quran sent to him, they would not have sought the infidels’ tutelage, but many of them are indeed wicked.” [5:81]

[8] “Those who disbelieve – they are friends and protectors of one another (especially against you). Unless you do it also (i.e. maintain solidarity among the believers) there will be unrest on the earth and great corruption.” [8:73]

[9] “O ye who believe! Take not my enemies and yours as friends (or protectors),- offering them (your) love, even though they have rejected the Truth that has come to you, and have (on the contrary) driven out the Prophet and yourselves (from your homes), (simply) because ye believe in Allah your Lord! If ye have come out to strive in My Way and to seek My Good Pleasure, (take them not as friends), holding secret converse of love (and friendship) with them: for I know full well all that ye conceal and all that ye reveal. And any of you that does this has strayed from the Straight Path.” [60:1]

[10] “O you who believe! do not make friends with people who have incurred the displeasure of Allah. They are indeed despaired of the Hereafter (since they have no faith in it), just as the disbelievers are despaired of those who are in the graves (as they do not believe that the dead will ever come to life again).” [60:13]

Destiny Of Hypocrites

[Allah’s Quran – 9:101]”Among the Bedouin Arabs who dwell around you there are hypocrites, and among the people of Madinah (too) there are such as have grown more artful and insidious in hypocrisy: you (O Messenger) do not know them (unless We inform you of them). We know them all (and the threat they pose). We will punish them doubly, and then they will be returned to a mighty punishment (in the Hereafter).”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) has said :
[Bukhari, Book #76, Hadith #587] “Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “While I was sleeping, a group (of my followers were brought close to me), and when I recognized them, a man (an angel) came out from amongst (us) me and them, he said (to them), ‘Come along.’ I asked, ‘Where? He said, ‘To the (Hell) Fire, by Allah’ I asked, ‘What is wrong with them’ He said, ‘They turned apostate as renegades after you left.’ Then behold! (Another) group (of my followers) were brought close to me, and when I recognized them, a man (an angel) came out from (me and them) he said (to them); Come along.’ I asked, “Where?’ He said, ‘To the (Hell) Fire, by Allah.’ I asked, What is wrong with them?’ He said, ‘They turned apostate as renegades after you left. So I did not see any of them escaping except a few who were like camels without a shepherd.”

13 Points On Shukr (Thankfulness) To Allah Ta’ala

1. We can never count Allaah’s Blessings: Be ever grateful to Allaah Ta’ala for everything that you possess including your wealth, health, status, intellectual abilities, and life.

Allah says: “Is, then, He Who creates comparable to any that cannot create? Will you not, then, take heed? For should you try to count Allah’s blessings, you could never compute them…” (An-Nahl16:17-19).

2. Shaytan’s primary mission is to make human beings ungrateful: From the very beginning of the human being’s creation, the issue of gratefulness and thankfulness to Allah Ta’ala has been debated. After refusing to bow to Adam, Satan said: “Then I will certainly come to them from before them and from behind them, and from the right-hand side and the left-hand side, and You (Allah) shall not find most of them thankful” (Al-Araf 7:17).

3. The opposite of Shukr (gratitude)is Kufr (disbelief): In many places, in the Quran, Allah compares the terms Shukr and Kufr.“Then remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and do not reject” (Al-Baqarah,[002]:152).

Iman (belief) implies Shukr or gratefulness as opposed to Kufr or ungratefulness. A kafir or disbeliever is ungrateful to the Being Who has given him everything, whereas a Believer is one who is ever thankful for all that Allah Ta’ala has given him.

4. We thank Allah for our own benefit: If you are ungrateful, Allah Ta’ala is unaffected. If you become grateful, then you have taken the first step toward becoming a true Believer.It is for this reason that the Prophet exhorted us to “Love Allah as we benefit from His grace” (Tirmidhi).

Allah reminds us: “And whoever is grateful, he is only grateful for the benefit of his own self” (Luqmaan, [031]: 012). “For surely if it was not for the grace of God on you and His mercy, you would have been among the losers (Al-Baqarah2:64).

5. True worship means sincere thankfulness to Allah: Allah Ta’ala explained in the Quran that the only people who truly worship Him are those who give gratitude to Him, so those who are not among the people of gratitude are not among the people of ‘Ibaadah (worship and obedience)..“… and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him you worship” (Al-Baqarah,[002]:172).

6. Shukr leads to Allah’s pleasure: Allah has told us that His pleasure may be attained through gratitude.“…If you are grateful, He is pleased with you…” (Az-Zumar, [039]:007).

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Allah is pleased with His servant if, when he eats something, he thanks Allah for it, and when he drinks something, he thanks Allah for it” (Muslim).

7. Gratitude is a purpose of our creation: “It is He Who brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing, and He gave you hearing and sight and intelligence and affection: that you may give thanks (to Allaah)” (An-Nahl, [016]:78).

8. Shukr is a quality of success in this life and the hereafter: Ibn ‘Abbaas narrated that the Prophet said: “There are four qualities, whoever is given them has truly been given the best in this world and the next. They are a grateful heart (that is thankful to Allah), a remembering tongue (that mentions Allah often), an enduring body (to persevere through the trials), and a faithful wife.”

9. Being grateful and patient in times of difficulty: Everything that happens to us even events that we may consider to be personal afflictions or natural disasters are from Allah. Therefore, in times of calamity and distress, there will be some good for us, provided we respond appropriately.

The Prophet (Peace be Upon Him)said: “How wonderful is the case of a Believer! There is good for him in whatever happens to him and none, apart from him, enjoys this blessing. If he receives some bounty, he is grateful to Allah and this bounty brings good to him. And if some adversity befalls him, he is patient, and this affliction, too, brings good to him.” (Saheeh Muslim)

10. Allah’s Mercy is for all, but most people will remain ungrateful: He shows and gives mercy to all, even those who continue to be ungrateful and rebellious towards Him: “Indeed God is the possessor of bounty for all people most people do not give thanks.” (Al-Baqarah,[002]: 243).

11. Most people subconsciously thank God: Reflect upon your own life and you will find innumerable occasions when Allah’s `hand’ has been holding you and helping you. So often, believers and even atheists subconsciously use the expression ‘Thank God’, without realizing the full implications of our words.

12. Shukr leads to abundance in Allah’s favors: If you appreciate Allah’s favors, He has promised increased Rahmah or Mercy for you. Allah’s reward for your gratitude is unlimited and unconditional.. “If you are grateful, I will surely give you more and more.” (Ibraaheem, [014]:007)

13. Three ways to express Shukr: The classical Muslim scholars have indicated Shukr can be shown in three ways:

– Shukr of the heart(Qalb), which is achieved by harboring and intending good for all of Allah Ta’ala’s creation.
– Shukr of the tongue(Lisaan), which involves celebrating the praises of Allah Ta’ala, such as utterance of “Alhamdulillah”, and expressing gratefulness to Allah Ta’ala with our tongue.
– Shukr of the limbs (Jawaarih), which is fulfilled by using our external senses to do good. Every time Allah Ta’ala gives us a blessing, we must use it in a way that benefits humanity and that pleases AllahTa’ala.

Worship And Fear Allah Alone

[Allah’s Quran – 16:51] “Do not Worship two gods, He is One and only, and therefore, fear Me and keep in awe of Me alone.”

The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said:
[Bukhari, Book #2, Hadith#47] “Narrated Abu Huraira: One day while the Prophet was sitting in the company of some people,
(The angel) Gabriel came and asked, “What is faith?”
Allah’s Apostle replied, ‘Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection.”
Then he further asked, “What is Islam?”
Allah’s Apostle replied, “To worship Allah alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat), and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan.”
Then he further asked, “What is Ihsan (perfection)?”
Allah’s Apostle replied, “To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you.”
Then he further asked, “When will the Hour be established?”
Allah’s Apostle replied, “The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.
1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.
2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah. The Prophet then recited: “Verily, with Allah (alone), is the knowledge of the Hour–.” (31. 34)

Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him. Then the Prophet said, “That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion.” Abu ‘Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all that as a part of faith.”

[Muslim, Book #9, Hadith #1577] “[It is narrated on the authority of (‘Abdullah) son of ‘Umar, that the Holy Prophet (may peace of Allah be upon him) said: (The superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), i. e. Allah (alone) should be worshipped, and (all other gods) beside Him should be (categorically) denied. Establishment of prayer, the payment of Zakat, Pilgrimage to the House, and the fast of Ramadan (are the other obligatory acts besides the belief in the oneness of Allah and denial of all other gods).”

[Abudawud, Book #9, Hadith #1577] “Narrated Abdullah ibn Mu’awiyah al-Ghadiri: AbuDawud said: I read in a document possessed by Abdullah ibn Salim at Hims: Abdullah ibn Mu’awiyah al-Ghadiri reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: He who performs three things will have the taste of the faith. (They are:) One who worships Allah alone and one believes that there is no god but Allah; and one who pays the zakat on his property agreeably every year. One should not give an aged animal, nor one suffering from itch or ailing, and one most condemned, but one should give animals of medium quality, for Allah did not demand from you the best of your animals, nor did He command you to give the animals of worst quality.”

Temptations Of Worldly Life, Diversion From Remembrance Of God

[ALLAH’S Quran – 102:1] “(Mankind! your) vying with one another to excel in multiplying worldly possessions diverts you (from God and true values of life),”

The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said :
[Bukhari, Book #59, Hadith#374] “Narrated Uqba bin Amir: Allah’s Apostle offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud eight years after (their death) as if bidding farewell to the living and the dead, then he ascended the pulpit and said, “I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness on you, and your promised place to meet me will be Al-Haud (i.e. the Tank) (on the Day of Resurrection), and I am (now) looking at it from this place of mine. I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that worldly life will tempt you and cause you to compete with each other for it.” That was the last look which I cast on Allah’s Apostle.”
