What Shall I do When I Have Sinned?

Repentance of the man who committed a hundred murders
Abu Sa’id Sa’d b. Malik b. Sinan al-Khudri says that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, “There was a man among a people before you who committed ninety-nine murders. Then he inquired about the most knowledgeable man on earth, and he was led to a monk. He went to him and told him that he had killed ninety-nine people and asked him if he could repent. The monk told him: NO!’ So the man killed him also and completed his hundred. Then he inquired about the most knowledgeable man on earth and was led to a scholar. He went to him and told him that he had killed a hundred people, and asked him if there was repentance for him. The man told him, ‘Yes. And what can come in between you and repentance?’ ‘Then he told him, ‘Go to such and such a town, for in it live people who are devoted to God. Devote yourself there to God in their company and do not come back to your own town for it is an evil place.’

So the man started towards that town. However, while he was halfway through the journey, death overtook him. The angels of ‘mercy’ and ‘punishment’ descended and began to argue over him. The angels of mercy said: ‘This man had repented and was seeking his Lord, (therefore he is our share),’ while the angels of punishment claimed that, ‘he had never done a good thing in life,’ (so he was their share). While they were thus arguing, another angel arrived in the form of a man. They decided to accept him as their arbitrator. He said: ‘Measure the earth between the two towns and let him be assigned to the fate of the one he is nearer to.’ When they measured, they found him nearer to the town he was heading towards. So the angels of mercy took him away.”

Why Revive The Sunnah?

1. The Prophet’s way is the best way.
“Truly, in the Messenger of Allah [Sallallahu alaihi wasallam] you have a good example to follow for the one who hopes for the Meeting with Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”[Al-Ahzab: 21]

2. The Sunnah of the Prophet [Sallallahu alaihi wasallam] is THE way to get Allah’s love. “Say: If you (really) love Allah, then follow me [SAWS], Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”[Aal-e-Imran: 31]

3. Following the Sunnah will help us increase in good deeds. “…Helle who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.”[Reported by al-Tirmidhi]

4. The Revp you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment.”[Al-Ma’idah: 2]

5. The AJR! Large amounts of Ajr (reward) are up for grabs! “Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people of the Ummah, which can only come by following the Sunnah of the Prophet [Sallallahu alaihi wasallam]

The last of this Ummah will not be corrected except by that by which the first of this Ummah was corrected, and that is the Book and the Sunnah. [Imam Darul Hijrah, Malik ibn Anas {r} d. 179]

Sunnahs Of Joking

1. Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to his companion Hanzala, who thought that life should be free from fun and entertainment and that he committed hypocrisy when he played and jested with his wife and children: “But, Hanzala, refresh your heart from time to time.” (Muslim). Here, the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) explained to the man that permissible fun and self-refreshment are desirable for the human soul to regain its activity and liveliness. He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also taught them the rules of conduct as regards joking, when asked about his joking with them, by saying: “Yes, but I speak truthfully.” (Tirmidhi).

2. Once, an old woman came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah for me to be admitted into Paradise. He said, “No old woman will be admitted into Paradise. On hearing this, she went away crying. He said: Tell her that she won’t be an old woman when she goes into Paradise.

3. Allah’s Messenger’s jokes were not limited to words; they included acts as well. Anas Ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “A bedouin called Zaher used to bring presents from the desert to the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) also used to supply him with provisions on leaving. He said about him: “Zaher is our ‘desert’ and we are his ‘city’. The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) loved him, though he was ugly-faced. One day, the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) came to him while he was selling some goods. He hugged him from the back unawares. Zaher said, “Release me.” Then he looked behind him and recognized the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), so he pressed his back against the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ’s chest. The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) called out: “Who purchases this slave?” Zaher said: “O Messenger of Allah, You will find me not sellable”. The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) answered: “But to Allah, you are not unsalable, or he said: To Allah, you are so dear”. (Tirmidhi)

4. A joke should not involve any hurt or insult to any Muslim. Allah’s Messenger said: “No Muslim is allowed to scare another Muslim.” (Abu Dawud) He also said: “Nobody should take (Muslim) brother’s belongings.” (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)

5. Joking should not drive a Muslim to lie to make others laugh; this is understood from the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ’s words: “Woe to him who lies when speaking to make people laugh. Woe to him! Woe to him!”

Third Pillar Of Islam

Charity is not just recommended by Islam; it is required of every financially stable Muslim. Giving charity to those who deserve it is part of the Muslim character and one of the five pillars of Islamic practice. Zakat is viewed as ”  compulsory charity “; It is an obligation for those who have received their wealth from God to respond to those members of the community in need. Devoid of sentiments of universal love, some people know only to hoard wealth and to add to it by lending it out on interest. Islam’s teachings are the very antithesis of this attitude. Islam encourages the sharing of wealth with others and helps people to stand on their own and become productive members of society.

In Arabic, it is known as zakat, which literally means ” Purification,” because zakat is considered to purify one’s heart of greed. Love of wealth is natural, and it takes firm belief in God for a person to part with some of his wealth. Zakat must be paid on different Categories of Property: Gold – Silver – Money – livestock; Agricultural Produce; And Business commodities, and is payable each year after one year’s possession.

The Marriage Process In Islam

Before Marrying: Selecting a Spouse
The first thing we should look for when marrying is how committed the person is to Islam. Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) said, “A woman is normally sought as a wife for her wealth, beauty, nobility, or religiousness (adherence to Islam), but choose a religious woman and you will prosper.” (Muslim)

And he said, “A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty, and her religion. You should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you will be a loser.”(Bukhari) And he said, “The whole world is a provision, and the best object of benefit of the world is the pious woman.” (Muslim)

The same holds when looking for a husband, as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) said, “When someone with whose religion and character you are satisfied asks to marry your daughter, comply with his request. If you do not do so, there will be corruption and great evil on earth.” (Tirmidhi)
